It could. For some reason, I think Google DNS will be better. I just feel really uncomfortable about it.

I had 30ms to 8.8.8.8 and 20ms to IDNet's DNS servers.

Anyone know how Google's servers can be faster if they're further away?

The priority of the given server in responding to a ping request also effects the time of the response as well as distance. i.e idnet dns servers, ping requests are probably a low priority. Try www.idnet.net if you want a more representative value.

I ran GRC's DNS Benchmark to compare, and IDNet's appear to be the fastest, see attachment.

OpenDNS is at the top, IDNet's have a black outline (which means its my current DNS). OpenDNS wins because it had the lowest response time on Cached, but IDNet's was faster on dotcom and uncached than OpenDNS and has very little change in Cached. Google's is lower down on the list so not that impressive. Remember to add both of google's dns if you want to benchmark as it doesn't have it included when you run the application.

I don't know why the app lists OpenDNS DNS server status as "Bad domain names are intercepted by provider" though, which the orange text on them means.

OpenDNS resolves www.google.com to its own servers and transparently proxies through all the requests to it, except the Firefox address bar searches doesn't it? Which I think is where it intercepts bad domain names typed in and redirects you, or gives you and advert, well it used to I have not used it for a while.
