odd one this
went to switchon the pc very early this morning. before leaving for work.
it came up with limited or no connectivity between itself and the router (internet light looked fine). So to test I switched on the 360 which is wired to port 4 in the netgear. unable to connect to xbox live. testing again showed no connection between end point and router. So I rebooted the router, leaving the power out for 5 minutes (why doesnt the NG have a nice switch!)

this seemed to resolve the issue as the xbox could connect again.
defo not a broadband issue though
If you truly believe you need to pick a mobile phone that 'says something' about your personality, don't bother. You don't have a personality. A mental illness, maybe - but not a personality

Rik

Sounds as if the router had 'got confused' and needed a re-boot.

Sounds like the routers DHCP service had stopped working

well I'm guessing it's another bad hair day, as it's just done it again, this time halfway through a session of assassins creed 2 on 360. suddenly, disconnected from xbox live. and internet went as well. hope the router aint going faulty, only had it a few months

and again. I had to power down the router again. as I could not see from pc to router or from 360 to router. This is getting worrying

Sounds a bit like my old D-Link router just before it shuffled off its mortal coil and died on me. If it is dying look on the bright side, at least its still under warranty.
True power doesn't lie with the people who cast the votes, it lies with the people who count them

Lance

I agree with Fox, it certainly does sound like the router is dying.

well it finally went tonight. so I stuck in my Belkin G. and it seems that it can only synch at 2mb max

Download speedachieved during the test was - 2041 Kbps
For your connection, the acceptable range of speeds is 600-7150 Kbps.
Additional Information:
Your DSL Connection Rate :7666 Kbps(DOWN-STREAM), 1220 Kbps(UP-STREAM)
IP Profile for your line is - 7000 Kbps

I'm certain it's a router issue, not exchange. think I'll be looknig for another netgear!

Lance

It's not your sync which is 2mb, it's your throughput. The throughput is way below what it should be so it strongly suggests exhange congestion is an issue.

the reason I say that is right up until the router went last night. I was getting 7mb. now the new router is in I'm getting 2mb.
surely not a coincidence

and if exchange congestion surely by now 23.13 it should be increasing instead it's down to 1.16mb and the wondrously rubbish bt speedtester, gives the following error

FAQ

I agree with Lance, the sync speed is OK, the throughput it low, despite the profile. It has to be a congested VP or VLAN. When that happened to me, support got BT to rebuild my circuit and things have been fine since.

do you remember the last time BT rebuilt my circuit, I was off for a week, as none of them knew how to do it. in fact they rebuilt it as a datastream circuit! I have another netgear D834G I'm about to configure. The belkin G is quite reknowned for very slow speeds.

I'm hoping they've learnt since then...

Just a thought, perhaps the Belkin needed a firmware update? Anyway, glad it's all working. :)
