Hi,

I am looking for a new ISP and I am really interested in IDNET.

I have a problem though.  When I use the Broadband Availability Checker, I am given the following message:

Good News!

You can migrate to 0Mb* IDNet Broadband on 0XXXXXXXXXX.
Your exchange is not yet ADSL2+ enabled.

Now I'm sure I don't need to tell you that 0Mb is not good news  ;)

I went around some other ISP websites and did availability checks and I got the same result of either 0Mb or 0.5Mb.  My connection is not the greatest anyway, but in the past these checks have given me the result of 1.5Mb.

So I was wondering if anyone could help me with this.  Maybe it's just a temporary glitch or something?

Here is a speedtest I just did to check my current speed:

Thanks.

Rik

Hi and welcome to the forum. :welc: :karma:

Ignore those results, that's the BT checker database playing silly buggers again. If you can post your current downstream sync speed, noise margin and attenuation, we'll be able to give you a reasonable guesstimate.

Thanks for the reply and the welcome.

I'm not sure how to obtain that information.  Could you point me in the right direction please?

Thanks.

It's an O2 Wireless Box II (a re-branded Netgear I believe).

I have accessed the router page through my browser but can't find those stats.

Rik

There should be a stats button on the 'front page' unless O2 have tampered with the firmware. Try this:

From the web interface http://192.168.0.1
> Router Status
> "Show Statistics" Button

alternatively click this link --> Show Statistics.

Default username = admin, password = password

I suspect O2 have tampered with it.  They seem to tamper with or mess up a lot of things recently ;)

The "http://192.168.0.1" leads me to a page load error.

The only stats which I can see through the O2 router page are:

DSL Connection

Uptime:  0 days, 2:32:10
DSL Type:  G.992.1 annex A
Bandwidth (Up/Down) [kbps/kbps]:  448 / 2,240
Data Transferred (Sent/Received) [kB/kB]:  0.00 / 0.00

O2_ADSL

Uptime:  0 days, 2:36:08
Data Transferred (Sent/Received) [MB/MB]:  6.86 / 51.12

You should get a profile of 1.75M on those sync speeds, say 1.65 throughput. I wonder, though, whether you will be able to use the router with another ISP? You may have to install a generic Netgear firmware. Alternatively, the sync speed suggests a long or noisy line, so you might want to check eBay for a 2-Wire 2700HGV, you can usually pick those up for £10-15 delivered and many of us have found they work something close to a miracle on a poor line (+500k over a netgear, for example).

Ok thanks for your help, Rik.  The next problem is getting O2 to cough up a MAC code without a termination fee...

They will be asking for their router back anyway, so I'll look into the one you suggested.  I'm currently attempting to get out of an Home Access contract early due to ongoing problems with poor speeds and disconnects from online games at peak times.

Also, you were correct, my house is about 2 miles from my exchange and according to O2, the line is poor.  I didn't, however, have such problems with my previous ISP (left them because of terrible customer service) and it was the same house/line.

Rik

It could be the CS brush off, or your line could be one of the many which have degraded. Best bet is to make the move, it's a 30 day contract with IDNet, so if it doesn't work out, you can soon move on. However, the support team will nag BT for you to get the best possible speed your line will support, so you might just feel inclined to stay. ;)

I'm fairly certain that the o2 box is actually a 'Thomson SpeedTouch TG585v7'. Check Here

Information on gathering stats, from Here

There's no place like 127.0.0.1
