Good Morning

I don't usually have cause to come on the Message Board (a good thing!), but I wondered whether anyone could throw some light on this for me.

I tried to connect to the internet this morning, but it would not let me.  It kept appearing with the "looking up" notification, and then would display "Internet Explorer cannot display the webpage".  This was for all web sites I tried to access.

Not being at all savvy with the internet, I decided to pull the plug out of my router and leave it a few minutes and see what happened.  I then plugged it back in, and after a few minutes, it showed all the lights green except for the "PPP" light (sorry, I don't know what "PPP" means).  Then a couple of minutes later, the "PPP" light came on!  And suddenly, my connection worked again!!!

Could somebody please advise what the problem might have been, and did I do the right thing by turning the router off and on??!

Many thanks. :)

Moonshine.

Steve

The PPP light relates to the second part of "making a broadband connection" The first part is when the adslrouter negotiates a connection with your local exchange, once that has occurred the PPP part is the transfer of your connection details to IDNet to complete the broadband connection. For some reason you dropped your connection with IDNet and it didn't automatically reconnect as it usually does. You did the correct thing in re cycling the power on your router, it may just be the odd blip perhaps due to BT work overnight I suggest keep an eye on it and if it keeps occurring contact support.

Thank you for your explanation, Steve.  I will keep an eye on things, and as you say, contact Support if the problem re-occurs.   :)
