Has anyone using Win 7 noticed that the Desktop cleanup wizard that used to be in XP for removing unwanted/unused shortcuts from the desktop seems to have been removed or well hidden away? At least I haven't managed to find it if it is still there. :P

Thanks, Glenn, looks like it disapppeared in Vista then, I didn't use it very often just that I seemed to have acquired a lot of shortcuts on my desktop and tried to find it to get rid of them, I've now resorted to manually deleting them.

I never used it either!

It's the first thing I disabled on XP, and never noticed in Vista or Win 7.

I keep an almost completely clear desktop - limiting icons to my computer, my data drive and the trashcan, so it's never been of any use to me at all.

I never used that on XP, because I didn't want it deleting shortcuts I may later need to use.  I clean up my desktop manually, once in a while, or when I can't fit any more icons on it!  ;D

I could never see the point of it, hold down CTRL, click around the desktop, hit delete. Much easier and under my control

Never used it either - I guess Microsoft decided it wasn't worth putting into Vista/Win7 as if this thread is anything to go by it wasn't popular :)

Very rarely I've used it, Rik, I just wish when you install new programmes they didn't dump shortcuts on your desktop, without asking in most cases, they've got a much more useful option in Win 7 you can pin any applications that you want to use frequently to the Task Bar.  :thumb:

I just open Explorer and dump the shortcuts where I want them in my start menu, but then I'm a Luddite and use classic menus. :)

The desktop cleanup wizard was a pretty useless function anyway, imho. :)

Never liked it in XP and always turned it off in the way it says here.

I can't remember being bugged by it in Vista (probably too many other things bugging me for me to notice) but this is most likely why.

I can't find anything about it in Vista SP3,  ;) oops I mean Windows 7 but my guess is it has not returned since its demise in Vista proper.
Even the Windows 7 Help, including the on-line search doesn't come up with anything!  :dunno:

No great loss though in my opinion.  :thumb:
