Well, it can be requested, but it's up to BT to agree. :(

I think so far they have disagreed as the product is performing within specification ;D ;D I need to catch a few BT speedtests below the threshold which is never easy as I am usually just over the 600kbps at my worst and obviously requires patience on my behalf.

How BT can get away with pronouncing such a wide range of acceptable performance defeats me, Steve. Ofcom shouldn't be allowing it.

Is it slow tonight? For the first time I'm not able to top 370kb/sec no matter what I throw at it, seems to be at around half the speed right now.

Sebby

No problems here (gw6, Holborn exchange).

Rik

A bit late, but everything is fine here, GW5/WBC, Wolverton exchange.

Marry Xmas guys! Hope you are having a good time

Well I'm still having slow connection, this is the update:

1. BT and IDnet tested the line - saying no problems.
2. I just connected friends new Zyxel Prestige 660 ADSL2+ Modem/Gateway and noise is reduced but some still there. However the speed seems the same as on the Frog I just disconnected.

My internet connection doesn;t seem stable on the Zyxel, within the last 30 min it failed twice to load the pages. I wonder if its related or is it the Zyxel.

BT test just run:

Download speedachieved during the test was - 1134 Kbps
For your connection, the acceptable range of speeds is 400-2000 Kbps.
Additional Information:
Your DSL Connection Rate :3744 Kbps(DOWN-STREAM), 448 Kbps(UP-STREAM)
IP Profile for your line is - 1250 Kbps

i don;t understand this: it says that Max Achievable Speed is 2000 Kbps, which is wrong as I know my exchange is enabled up to at least 8Mbps.

Will I have to wait again for 5 days for the profile to improve?

ping idnet.net

Pinging idnet.net [212.69.36.10] with 32 bytes of data:
Reply from 212.69.36.10: bytes=32 time=24ms TTL=59
Reply from 212.69.36.10: bytes=32 time=26ms TTL=59
Reply from 212.69.36.10: bytes=32 time=25ms TTL=59
Reply from 212.69.36.10: bytes=32 time=26ms TTL=59

Ping statistics for 212.69.36.10:
    Packets: Sent = 4, Received = 4, Lost = 0 (0% loss),
Approximate round trip times in milli-seconds:
    Minimum = 24ms, Maximum = 26ms, Average = 45ms

Ping data (times) seem rather different to the last check when it was over 40. What does that mean?  ???

Please advise.
Thanks

Gee

A Merry Xmas to you :)

Your Ping measures the round-trip time to the destination server from your PC. The lower figure is probably reflecting the new infrastructure recently install by IDNet but there could be other reasons for it.

To get a better picture of why your throughput is low it would be helpful if you could post your modem stats which will help determine the quality of your phone line.

Hi Glenn,

BT test from earlier today:

"Download speedachieved during the test was - 1134 Kbps
For your connection, the acceptable range of speeds is 400-2000 Kbps.
Additional Information:
Your DSL Connection Rate :3744 Kbps(DOWN-STREAM), 448 Kbps(UP-STREAM)
IP Profile for your line is - 1250 Kbps"

But I just thought I'd run the tests again and here is a dramatic improvement, perhaps as it is 2.30 am, or perhaps new modem has made a difference ;D. Will test it again tomorrow during the day.

BT test now:

Test1 comprises of Best Effort Test:  -provides background information.

Download  Speed
5541 Kbps

0 Kbps 7150 Kbps
Max Achievable Speed

Download speedachieved during the test was - 5541 Kbps
For your connection, the acceptable range of speeds is 600-7150 Kbps.
Additional Information:
Your DSL Connection Rate :7136 Kbps(DOWN-STREAM), 448 Kbps(UP-STREAM)
IP Profile for your line is - 6000 Kbps "
;D

I'm well pleased! I guess that means my frog IS faulty and that I do need to buy a new router?

Which (cheaperst) one can you guys reccommend?

Thank you all for the help! :thumb:

Rik

That does rather condemn the frog, Gee. Consider a Netgear or Speedtouch as a replacement, or even a 2-Wire 2700HGV, about £10-15 delivered from eBay.

Agreed on that and can be had for about £46-56. Two year warranty I think, my DGND3000 came with a two year one, but it may only be a year for the 834G I'm not sure.
Damned, if you do damned if you don't

Super slow tonight for me on GW5 tonight according to TT im hiting 2.6 down, thats really bad on a 8128 line, so who is hammering IDnet during the freebe bit  :eyebrow:

Given someone else was reporting particularly good speeds at the same time, Gary, I wonder if it's exchange congestion. I've asked support if they can look at the graphs for me.

Its may be but as far as I know the exchange here from the last time I spoke with support was ok, things do change ut it was slow at 2:06am at that time you would it would be ok, yet now its much better.  :dunno: It would be interesting to know though, we are a backwater exchange with no other service provider other than BT, but also a high population of elderly (over eighties) so I don't think there is a huge demand for ADSL here, that's why no one else has put their equipment in the exchange and probably why we lost out on 3G as well, but its possible the exchange has now become congested just because its overlooked so much.

Edit just checked at as of the 4th of December it was showing green http://usertools.plus.net/exchanges/?exchange=Bosham&exact=134&plugin=vp what I don't like is this little gem "BT have advised that no current planned date for WBC on 21CN exists"

Things seem to have slowed down again for me tonight. Not as bad as before, but I usually get around 5Mbps.

Dan

Rik

The patchiness of speed problems make me think the BT network/exchanges are the issue, but IDNet will be looking at the graphs closely.

Speed won't get urgent attention this week. Especially with the free bandwidth offer on, which some people are undoubtedly using to excess.

True. And it'll probably cure itself soon. I'll drop them an email next week if the problem persists again.

Someone who seemed to have similar speed issues before at the same times as me, and on the same exchange, but with Orange broadband, has similar results. Indicating a BT fault I guess.
