Wheres the best place to get a IDE to USB?

I've got my friends tower here and its an IDE connector for the hard drive. all my computers use sata now. I want to backup the files before i do a reformat.

I put the HDD from the pc into the USB enclosure but it wont let me see the files on the disc, must be doing something wrong but cant think.

yeh, comes up as local disk (j)

but says its only 32gb when its 250gb

plus it sees a hidden AVG folder and it hangs my pc while reading the HD

First thing i checked.. tried them all.. trying a spare HD, i know this has a good XP install on it.
