I've had one of these for 2 years and never had a problem. It's a very good router where deadspots are a problem. It's also got a blue go-faster flashing light on the top which might appeal to you, David ;D

Rik

You know David too well, John. :)

I had the Netgear DG834PN and it didnt like my line, plus the wireless kept dropping in my house. There are known problems with this router, Your lucky if you get one that works with no problems.

I've had mine for well over a year and it's never given any problems and my wireless connection is fine also.  You must have bought a rogue one.

Well, I can't complain about this:

ADSL Link
Connection Speed  6816 kbps
Line Attenuation     49.0 db
Noise Margin     6.1 db

They must of fixed the problems with the router then. I had mine when it first came out. Had replacements aswell, They all had the same problem.

My sister has the router now and she gets the same problems (even with firmware updates)

I have that router, its expensive as its a dual band 5ghz and 2.4 ghz simultaneous  router, it works great with 5ghz compatible equipment, like my iMac but unless you have any stick to 2.4ghz David, its not worth it unless you want to stream HD material.

What do you think of this one ?

That is the one I have just purchased and it seems OK at the moment, apart from the fact that although it is wireless 'N', it refuses to work at the wirless 'N' speeds with my wife's Acer laptop that has wireless 'N' built in. So it probably is just a compatibility issue, but the cost of the recommended matching wireless dongle for it, is half of the price of the router again, which I am not prepared to pay.

Rik

N is still suffering from this kind of teething trouble, Colin.

Mine works at 300Mbps on the iMac, on acer laptops you need a card with three aerials not two to get the higher speeds, the intel 5100 and below wont get above 130. You can get it to run faster than 54-65 though if you set channel width to 40MHz (or automatic if this is not an option) on the laptop

Actually, they're surprisingly warm, Paul. I went to a function at Mentmore Towers once, and everyone was cold but me. Having 11-12 yards of wool wrapped round you is pretty effective, and if you eat beans first...
