Has any one tried Microsofts Security Solutions yet. Kaspersky was driving me nuts by not letting me licence it again and then it went corupt on both computers so I uninstalled and loaded MSS. So far it seems very much to run in the background but I wonder if any one else has tried it yet.

I've got it on 6 computers. Works fine and in the background.

Is it a suite, or just anti virus?

I will, but I'm on my phone at the moment, so I was just trying to raise conversation.  Miserable sod!  ;D

Ran Microsoft Security since October and ran very smoothly but I had an increase of spam in my emails. I have now turned it off and installed Kaspersky 2010 for Windows 7 (I had already bought it anyway) and my spam has dropped already. So although I could not really find anything wrong with MSS (and for a free service its very good indeed) I think I prefer Kaspersky 2010.  ;D

Thanks for the feedback, Den.  :)

I've been using it on a couple of PCs, for a few months. It's lightweight, unobtrusive and it did catch an incoming virus on a couple of occasions. I've found nothing to criticise yet and the initial reports I read gave it a larger than expected thumbs up.

All I can really say is that it's free and it appears to be as good or better than other products that have to be paid for.

I use Gmail and have had about 2 spam messages in the past 5 years.

I have used it and like it a lot although I do not have it on my machine at the moment.
However if you read the following link it explains that  MSE is considerably more than just an anti-virus and also why it does not like third party security software running alongside it. Posts #6 & 8 by Rob Koch are the relevant ones.

It's still running well here on 6 computers. No problems at all, and the price is right.

Also I find the SPAM filter on Gmail to be very effective. Always have.

Me too! Excellent! Don't mess with anything else :thumb: I bet cavillas you, like me have had not one security (Google) problem! I certainly haven't.

Except, perhaps, your own domain. :)

Their spam filter is second to none :thumb:

I've never used MSS, but I've found (on Vista machines at least) that AVG Free along side a Windows Defender and Windows Firewall (while behind a router as well) has always been fine. Just runs quietly in the background, rarely have to do anything with it.

Interesting, Bob. I still have a nervous feeling about trusting the company which left the holes in the first place to plug them for me. ;D

I wouldn't put it on the Laptop, it maybe be good in some respects but I believe it does not check in real time as you browse and deals with the nasties as they do thier thing one aboard, and to think thats all you need on a windows box may be naive for some users out there, I could be wrong on real time scanning but there are better solutions, I also avoid Kaspersky having been a fan, v 2010 is a mess, slow and cu,mbersome with so many bugs its untrue, also as it permantly alters every file on your hard drive.

Prevx along with Eset and windows firewall and the routers hardware firewall was all I needed on the old pc I sold, with Superantispyware as a once in a while check.
Damned, if you do damned if you don't

The Ms product does check in real time and I have had it on board since it was introduced.  I also have the free advanced ssystem care 3 suite along with antimalware bytes and ccleaner.  By avoiding dodgy websites(using OpenDNS) and judicial use of regular scanning I have never got a bit of spyware or virus.  But then I never got anything when using other free products either, it all depends how you use the machine online.  I also use Gmail and all my email goes through them so all spam etc is filtered at source.

Thanks for the heads up on scanning, still would not use it though, something about Microsoft providing security after providing the holes in the first place, also that just makes one hell of a monopoly in my book. Also I don't believe in a free lunch......
