Hi all,

Yesterday one of my hard drives failed in my raid backup, its just over a year old and i'm surprised its failed already.

It was a hitachi HD.

Whats the best make to go for? looking for a low noise one.

I have one that sounds like its eating itself so i'm trying to avoid another.

Rik

Samsung? I have a couple and they are very quiet.

Samsung here as well, I did like Seagate until I had a couple fail at around a year old earlier in the year.

They seem to be a growing force in so many areas, don't they, Ray?

Samsung and Western Digital are my preferred drives; Samsung if you want really quiet. Seagate are not what they once were, which is a shame.

Neither are Hitachi, it seems.  Shame, because when they were IBM, you couldn't fault them, and I have an IBM drive still going strong after about 7 years.

Should be OK with that, Paul, I've had one of that model running in my WH Server for just over 12 months with no problems.  :thumb:

I have 3 Hitachi drives in my PC - can't say I've had any problems (Kiss of death? Dead HD's tomorrow, now????)

Have I lost my way?

I always temper recommendations with a little apprehension too, Steve. :)
