Hi everyone, the stranger returns.

I'm having the same problem. When it was just me in the house my 30GB allowance was fine, heck i was so pleased with just getting a connection to the web....a flashing light would have kept me happy for hours.

But things change. As mentioned last year my mother was mugged and a few weeks later they returned to her house for money, she hasn't much but they decided to take it out on her, if you know what i mean? So after she came out of hospital she moved in with me and along came the grandkids for half a day every day. I have no problem with that....they keep her company and they make her feel safe...but they obviously have to do homework and today's kids do it via a computer and internet connection. With one of them studying astrometrics and nuclear science he's using a lot of bandwidth just to present a paper twice a week. it's all getting out of hand and i now find myself in a position i did not want to be in....leaving the only ISP i love.

I don't want to find myself receiving e -mails alerting me i'm close to exceeding my monthly allowance and yet the extra GB's are nothing financially.....around a pound a Gig is it?

I was just wondering if IDNET have any plans in 2010 to increase the download allowances? With web pages getting richer in content and video players seemingly common place... just downloading basic text soon adds up when you're counting downloads. I would certainly reconsider my options if allowances were going to get a rethink....i'm really trying my best not to sound like an ungrateful customer.

I'm a rural resident so BT is unlikely to upgrade my exchange to ADSL2 although i did receive broadband, after the dial up period, the same time as everyone else.

Steve

Does http://www.samknows.com/broadband/search.php give you a date for ADSL2+ (21CN WBC rfs) as the allowances are more generous for the same package.

Hi Dave, nice to see you   :)

It might also be worth checking the ThinkBroadband  checker, as it's sometimes more up to date than Samknows.  It might even be
worth asking IDNet.

Damned, if you do damned if you don't

Hi Dave

Welcome back. I'm sure IDNet will be reviewing their packages this year, once they know the effect of the BT price cuts.

Hi and thankyou everyone for replying.

I'm sorry i just vanished from the board without saying anything but i'm now a 24 hour nurse for my mother 5 days a week and try to run a business the other 2 days, i barely get chance for a sit down with a coffee and a fag let alone contribute to a forum.

Apparently my exchange has a 21CN PSTN switch over date target and it's called Q4:2010....which i presume is B.T code and customers aren't meant to know. And from what i've read Q4:2010 isn't a date but an aspiration anyway....maybe i'm wrong.

To be perfectly honest if my exchange was unbundled there's only one company i'd sign up with anyway for broadband, IDNET. No one else has ever treated me like a bona fide customer and delivered on what they promised, i'd be stupid to risk that and go with another provider.

Simon

If that's off Samknows, it's the 21CN WBC status you're after, Dave. Q4 2010 means the fourth quarter of 2010.

Simon you're a star!!

So it's around October then, that's if BT remember we're still here.

It's a shame IDNET don't have some kind of pre paid method of storing GBs and we could use them as we go over our limit. I realise the administration would be a nightmare but that's why they run a broadband business and i build houses.LOL.

In the meantime i'll have to take another look at the BT resell packages. I wonder if IDNET accept credit card payments for subscriptions?

Simon

So, the WBC date is also Q4, Dave?  That's a fair way off, I guess.

IDNet do accept credit card payments (CCAs), but most of us prefer to use direct debit, as they are easier to cancel, if the necessity arose.

Rik

That is an aspirational date, Dave, so look more towards December than October.

I would take the SamKnows info with a pinch of salt. According to SamKnows my exchange was WBC enabled on 31.05.09 but it wasn't. According to IDNet it is due to switch in Feb 2010 - guess who I believe. I gave up on SamKnows because most of the info for my exchange has been way out for a long time, but of course it depends where/who they get their info from, some of their info may be correct but certainly not for my exchange.

Rik

I agree, Ian, the site is not as useful as it used to be.

How do i check my exchange on Idnet?

Rik

Phone or email support (assuming you are not greeted by a yellow banner when you log in).

Yeah i thought it might be. I find the whole ADSL V ADSL 2 argument so criminal in a country that seems to be slipping back on everything....if we slip anymore we'll be 50 years behind the rest of the world in the broadband market. How can it be that in the year 2010 those people lucky enough to be deemed worthy enough for LLU attention are paying up to 50% less for their broadband connection than those living out in the country and of absolutely no commercial interest to any company?

I managed to get 10 minutes to myself this morning and, after a brief look at the current IDNET ADSL packages, here's hoping they are subject to change very soon, i think i may have to look at the Home Super Max package, it gives double the download limit of the package i'm on. It's the peak/off peak thing that wories me though. The kids obviously want to be doing their homework etc between 4.00pm and maybe until 7.00pm, i can't see them warming to the idea of doing it in the wee hours of the morning.

Otherwise, and it breaks my heart and wallet to say this....it's hello to Namesco. :bawl:
