Moving to adsl+

I have decided to take the plunge into adsl2+ and have sent my upgrade request to idnet.

An extra 5gb allowance for the same price (£17.99) plus maybe a little more speed,although i'm aware this isn't guaranteed after reading through the various adsl2+ threads.

I have quite a long line which is why i am not expecting a meteoric rise in speed,but any gain would be nice.

These are my router stats (2 wire single ssid) now using adsl max so it will be interesting to see the results when adsl2+is activated.

My own guess is that you won't see a speed increase, however we may both be pleasantly surprised, ADSL2+ is notoriously difficult to predict as the quality of the line has a bigger impact. You gain more than 5GB, though, there's also 30GB off peak if you want to use it.

My switch over to adsl2+ should be completed some time on monday,so lets hope for a smooth transition.

I have a long line too. When i was on ADSL 8mb max I would sync at 2048kbps. On ADSL2+ I now sync at 3092kbps so I gained an extra 1mb. The real difference is in upload though. I went from 448kbps to 1000kbps.

Edit: Expect a 10 day training period where you'll lose sync a good few times and your sync rate will be all over the place. Mine settled after 2 days though.

Well,the switch over to adsl2+ has happened today as promised, with a slight increase in sync and a decent increase in upload speed.

Odd that, Johnny, my attenuation went up when I switched. It must be a router thing.

I thought the norm was a small rise in downstream attenuation when moving over to adsl2+

I've heard that it triggers a rise and a fall, Steve. The rise makes more sense, it's using higher frequencies. The fall may come about through the physical changes to connections at the exchange.

I notice there is a big decrease in upstream noise margin from 20db to 6db,and i am wondering if this will make the connection more unstable.

No, the u/s margin rarely affects stability.

Hopefully I will be as lucky as you and see a slight increase in speed but I'm not expecting a large change....as long as it doesn't become unstable or loose speed...I don't want that. The extra 60Gbs of Allowance will be welcome as I have one daughter at University and the other doing her GCSEs.....so they are constantly on their computers, downloading and uploading. So maybe I can get them to change their Habits and download at night.....we'll see

I have the option to move to ADSL+ and have an exceptionally long line (only get 1.5meg)

Extra speed would be nice but my main concern is ping for my gaming

would moving to ADSL+ have a positive or negative effect on ping?

Ian.It was launched as an extra low latency product and forum members have reported reduced ping times on adsl2+ ,any improvement will also depend on the depth of interleave in place.

Hi there, I was wondering how do you know when you have moved over to ADSL+2? Do you get a Email from Idnet? or is there something that you can check in your account to say that you have moved onto ADSL+2. or does it show up on my Router settings?
My connection seemed to go down at about 12.00 Mid-day and the only way I could back on line was by re-booting the Netgear Router (well Netgear doesn't have a reboot button but I just unplugged it for about 20 seconds) and then was able to connect. I checked my account and it still says ADSL Max.

Hopefully, this is BT working on the line

Look at your upload speed, Harry, that's usually a fair indicator, then check the d/l speed.

I take it from your answer that I don't get any acknowledgement from Idnet that I have moved? Should it not show on my account that I am now connected to ADsL+2?

From your opinion does it look like I have moved and if so will these figures change in over the training period (of 10 days) + will the allowance change from midnight to-night?

Yes you've moved, and yes your figures will change over the training period, Harry. I can't remember whether I got an email from IDNet, but I knew from the figures. Your account should be showing your new package.

I did receive an e-mail from idnet yesterday confirming that i had been moved onto adsl+2.

It will be interesting to see if the increase in speed can be retained.

Rik.....as usual you are spot on. Just checked my account and it is showing that I have moved to ADSL+2. So everything seems to be working....a wee bit of an increase in speed and an large increase in Allowance....all good news.
As you know I was worried about the move but everything has worked out well.

PS is there anything I should watch out for in the figures in the next 10 days or should I just let it take it's course? Also are the 10 days 10 working days?

Thanks Johnny5 for that information but as I have said my account now shows the change...but that is good know that Idnet follow up with an Email. In my opinion Idnet are the best Internet Company out there....it might be a wee bit dearer but their customer Service is second to none. This Forum is full of great knowledgeable guys like Rik and Simon (and others) who know their stuff....which makes the decision so easy.

Yes, I do seem to have had a small increase in speed and it will be interesting to see if that keeps up....I'll keep you informed

No, just let it take its course for 10 calendar days. The DLM software, unlike most of BT, works 7 days a week.

Depending on your line characteristics, you may see speed drop a little, interleaving come on or a combination of both, equally, you may find speed increases. WBC DLM seems to be a whole new ball game.

average before was about 6.80 down and 0.37 up
