Can't access site

Help. This weekend and all day today I can not access a security site that I require for my business, after a long discussion with the Tech Dept it was decided to delete my certificate and they would issue a new one, but then they found I could not access the new certificate.
We then discovered that I could not access their public site either so they said they would look into it overnight and report back. I have just tried using my laptop to access the public site and this will not let me either. The only common denominater is my router but as I am not having any problem with any other site I wonder.

The public site is          www.emcs.co.uk             can some one try and report back

I'm using W7 and IE8 but have never had a problem before and strange that I can't access it on the lap top either.

I can get through on windows 7 and IE8 whats the error message I doubt its the router

Fine in XP/FF, Den. Time to start turning off software firewalls and AV to see if they are blocking.

I turned off MSE and still could not access site, also turned off Windows fire wall and then router fire wall, all with the same result.

Can you try from a different machine, Den?

Tried from both desktop and laptop Rik, same result but have not had a problem before. I use Netport at EMCS on a daily bases with no problems normally.

Both Win7, Den? Can you either check with another browser or see if you've got an old certificate stored?

Just installed Opera  with the same result so it's not IE8

I don't know Den. All I can think of is AV or firewall.It is also possible to setup a blacklist of sites in certain routers and OpenDNS for instance. You don't think the company have blacklisted your IP  address? Try http://www.hidemyass.com/

the issue with with opendns's dns. If you use different nameservers it's fine. I to couldn't hit it when using opendns, changed to another and got the page.

unfortunately you can't just browse to the IP as it looks like it's a cname.

Try the following.

Make a note of your dns servers which are probably.

208.67.220.220
208.67.222.222

remove them both from your network connection.

instead add another one. You could use an idnet one or for the test i did. 194.72.6.57.

close all browsers

from command line run

ipconfig /flushdns

open browser

and you should get the page

Remember to change the dns servers back to opendns.

or you could just use a proxy to hit the site as steve suggested with hidemyarse.com enter in www.emcs.co.uk and then hit hide my arse

Well done So  I can't access either via OpenDNS.

I received emails from them today, the last one at 13.07pm so I think all is well with them and I have paid my account

OpenDns's Amsterdam server is failing to resolve emcs.co.uk to 82.3.50.100, but their other servers are OK.

Refreshing the Opendns cache has failed to update the Amsterdam server, so it is a matter of wait and see.

since it started more than 24 hours ago I have now been able to open a support ticket at OpenDNS on the problem, waiting to hear what they say.

EMCS inform me that they have some other customers with the same problem and that they are looking into it and no they did not block my IP address

Somanyholes was right about the parent DNS server record being wrong

OpenDNS support have replied that the hosting company for www.emcs.co.uk has not set up A Records for the URL

Apparently the DNS servers that are working now are running on Caches of the old A Record and more will fail as their caches update.

OpenDNS has failed first because it is very quick to propagate changes.

After long chat with both EMCS and James @ Idnet I looked at my router settings. 

VCI set on 35 not 38
Set up for Bridged LLC not VC-MUX
Primary server: 208.67.222.222   not  212.66.36.3
Secondry : 208.67/220.220  not   212.66.40.3

When ever I press save either after trying to change or not it says Username incorrect and will not let me change settings.

All still works but will not let me onto EMCS site

Is it a 2700? If so, you will need to use the javascript to save the changes "javascript:document.pagepost.submit()"

Yes it is a 2700hgv  How is it I was able to set it up OK in past and what has changed?  I have never used javascript before so lessons will be required. I have a brand new 2700hgv that has never been set up is it worth changing over and set that one up from scratch, this one has held synch for months.

I wonder if the settings you are seeing are just the default options, Den?  It may already be set correctly.  I can't point to them now, but what do the connection status pages say?

I have never used javascript before so lessons will be required.

Once you have entered your username and password, Den, don't hit submit, but in the address bar, type javascript:document.pagepost.submit() then hit <enter>.

Den, the fault is not with your PC or router.

The easiest way to set the 2700HGV up is to just run the built-in setup routine, it never fails to work.

The entries regarding VCI = 35 and Bridged LLC are not the settings the router is actually using, they are the defaults.   208.67.222.222 and 208.67.220.220 are the openDNS servers.

The reason you cannot reach www.emcs.co.uk  using some nameservers is that their hosting company has still not set the A-Record correctly, even though I emailed them and pointed out the problem.

If I set the name servers in my O.S. to point to Idnet  and leave my router pointing at Opendns then I can reach www.ecms.co.uk, if the O.S. is pointing to the router, or to OpenDNS then it fails.

The working DNS servers are using their cache to resolve www.ecms.co.uk, when they update they will fail too.
