PDF problem

I've been having a problem opening a PDF file, I can download it OK. When I try to open it I get the message "Error [PDF Structure 40] Invalid property type. Rik can download and open it so I wonder if it's anything to do with IE7 which he doesn't use. I've tried Foxit and PDF XChange Viewer with same result.

Would anyone else like to try it? Go to  http://www.cityoflondon.gov.uk/Corporation/LGNL_Services/Housing/Council_housing/choice_based_lettings.htm and click on "City's Home Connections Webpage" link in the text. Then download and open the User Guide pdf at top right.

You should have the copy I downloaded now, Noreen. If that doesn't open, it's something else on your machine which is the issue. (In the short term, I'd be happy to print a copy for you and post it...)

I've received your download, Rik, and I can open it!!!!!!!! I omitted to say before that I downloaded another PDF file since having the problem file and it opened with no problem. So it's just that file, anyone got any ideas why?

UPDATE: I've now tried again and it now works.

Afterthought. It might be worth running CHDSK on the drive, Noreen, perhaps the file had a bad sector in it.

It opens OK with Adobe 9 using either IE8 or Firefox, Noreen

Works for me with IE8 and FF using PDF-Xchange.

If you only need to read the document simply paste the URL "http://www.homeconnections.org.uk/CityOfLondon/PDF/CBL_Co_user_guide.pdf" into the Google search bar select " Search" and when the result appears select "View as HTML" and the document will open in your browser.

It doesn't matter which O.S. or browser you are using

Thanks for all your help, folks. As I've said it's now working OK, almost as though Rik's download kicked something into action, anyway it works now.

Now that I've installed PDF XChange Viewer I want to uninstall Foxit but it's not listed under programs to be uninstalled in Control Panel. I did a Google search and I get the impression that you can just manually remove the program, is that correct?

No I can't see one, Glenn. Reading the Google replies it seems that there isn't any uninstall option and that you can manually delete the progam. Some people have queried about Registry entries and apparently you just leave them unless you want to mess around with the Registry.

TBH, Noreen, I can't remember what I did when I removed it, but remove it I did.

That seems fairly conclusive, and a good reason to get rid of the software.

I've just made a Restore Point and manually deleted the program. I don't feel confident enough to mess around with the Registry.

Yes I did read that I could use that. I ran the check for problems in CCleaner under Registry and in the list saw four items for Foxit. Still don't feel brave enough.

Do an Acronis backup before, then you can always revert.
