Discs no longer want to play on this current desktop of mine I put them in the slot and just hear it just fails to spin now.......had a look last night and according to the device manager it is all working properly so I guess it is a case of a new drive...are they easy to install ?
I was thinking of getting either an external drive which I would imagine is less hassle but any suggestions would be welcomed.

I did go out over weekend and looked at a few machines as It might be time to buy a new one..the only one I liked was the Acer X3810 Desktop PC but have not looked online yet I dont want or need a monitor as this one is not old so just a desktop around this price range and with a processor which can handle my music and photos ect this one cant seem to handle these when I am using both at the same time so  time to move it on I think..which means let Matty have it to play on.

This Acer Aspire L320 is getting on now and has been good but due to othet expensive hobbies  ;D I need to temper my outlay for a new machine

I think its a slot loading dvd drive so not sure how easy it is to remove and replace. External USB DVD drives/burners I find work well, they are more expensive presumably due to the additional power supply required.

Simon

I had a slot loading DVD drive in my old machine, and they are just the same to replace as a drawer type drive.  Two or three connectors and four screws.

David

I will take a look Simon it is the installing of the software that bothers me and as this machine is tiny I am thinking if a standard size is in there I would imagine it is.... :dunno:

Simon

Ah, well, I haven't seen the pics, David, and I was referring to standard sized drives.

Ray

Is this the one you've got? David, here

That doesn't look as though a standard internal drive will fit it, you'd probably be better going for an external drive as a replacement.

I love the spec on this one,and I have just installed one of my other machines on my spare 32 inch digital TV in my bedroom...what a great picture.....now I am thinking of bring that TV down here in my room and putting it up on the wall.....it would be brilliant......Now to find out who can deliver it the quickest

Technical Ben

I'd suggest replacing the drive internally. Do you know anyone who can do that sort of thing? It would be a pity to throw out a nice car because the tire needs replacing...

Your original choice of drive http://www.ebuyer.com/product/183362
It's half the price there.
Replacing the internal should not really need any software to install.

But if you do get a new pc, what are you doing with the old one?
I use to have a signature, then it all changed to chip and pin.

David

Thanks Ben,I have had it apart today and the drive is very small so really apart from getting a donar off ebay which isnt an option I am giving this machine to my son to go online for his Lego and stuff and replacing this machine down here..

This machine no longer fills my needs really as I like to jig my photos play music  ect and this one just struggles..but I wont throw it out it is fine for my son he is only 10 but loves going on Lego and Ebay

Thanks Glenn,I am just ploughing through the 5 star reputation they have and see they are in Scotland so I can see why Rik uses them  ;D

The off on this machine ends at midnight and after running around today cannot match either price or spec....don't want to lose it for procrastinating
