Is YouTube OK for you?

Both with Opera and IE8 I'm finding pages slow to load and the large image on the first page of each channel is pixellated. Thumbnails look OK but sometimes don't load at all.

Is it my problem or YT's?

And if it's my problem any simple suggestions please?

Rik

I've had no problems, might be worth trying Firefox to eliminate a browser issue before we start tearing your machine apart. ;)

I've been on YT for the last couple of hours without any noticable issues. The only thing I can suggest is checking your bandwidth and try another browser. I guess it could be graphics card driver issue but that's clutching at straws.

Seems to be OK for me on FF and IE8

Hmm - looks as though it's my problem. Thanks for tips so far. I'll try FF when I have a few moments!

Update on YT problem:-

No improvement with Firefox.  Large image at start of channel doesn't load (FF and Opera) or is pixellated (IE8), some or all thumbnails fail to load (all 3 browsers) but look OK when present. Everything a bit slow though videos can be played but audio playback hesitant, NOT a case of re-buffering because progress bar stays well ahead of the advancing play button.

BBC News videos and .flv files downloaded from YT in the past all play perfectly (sound and picture) - so it seems unlikely to be graphics card failure?

Dailymotion (a YT lookalike) videos show images correctly, audio sometimes crackly, hesitant.

Connection speed averages around 5.

Sony VAIO laptop is over 4 years old, works perfectly for normal web browsing and emailing but could this be the beginning of the end?

I've tried googling around and found others seem to have had similar problems a year or two ago but I have found no convincing solutions.

As always, most grateful for any thoughts....

As we've discounted browsers, and YT works for most of us, it might be worth temporarily disabling any software firewall to see if that helps.

Thanks Rik. Temporarily disabling Avast helped with FF and IE - but now I find I can't type anything into Opera address pane nor into IDNetters' "Post reply"! Have had to go to IE in order to reply to you. What on earth is going on?

Have to break off for several hours - lunch then shopping!

Rik

A man with his priorities right. TBH, I don't know what's going on, but it seems live Avast is at the heart of it.

I'd overlooked SuperAntiSpyware! Exiting from that while leaving Avast enabled seems to have solved problems with YT and Opera - at least for now :fingers:

Thanks for letting us know.  :thumb:
