Tell me please .............. hasn't that 'Best AV Program' got 'Automatic updates'?

If so this thread seems quite pointless.  :out:

Quite right, Mo. It does do auto updating, but we've discovered a little quirk in its scheduling. It will wait for a particular server to get the update, as the promulgation takes a while, it can be delayed. If you force a manual update, it tells you there are no updates, then promptly updates itself. It's not critical, we're probably talking a few hours at most, but for the sake of a quick post, the first one to get the auto-update lets the rest know.

Certainly has - hourly by default.

I think the most I've had (in about six years) is five in one day.

Rik

I'd agree with you there, William. You wonder at the beavering activity that must be going on at Eset on days like that...

I have split this section off from the original thread as it has gained a life, and subject, of its own.

I can help but enquire into NOD32, since your always on about it :)

I currently use the following:
AVG Free
PC Tools spyware doctor 4 (although 5 is due any day now!)

So, my virus checker is a free one, i like it because it doesent eat up resources, and is "pritty good" for a free one.

Whats NOD32 like in this respect?

Lance

NOD32 uses so little resources for what it does, it's amazing! Processor usage is next to nil. Obviously, it isn't free but they do have a trial version you can download to try it out. This is what I did and at the end of the trial period (30 days I think) I thought it was good enough to buy it!

If you decide you don't like it you can simply reinstall your AVG.

Here is NOD's official forum.

Pay particular attention to the sticky about Blackspears extra settings. (Blackspear is one of the Australian re-sellers.)

Think of Blackspear as a bit like Rik (knowledge-wise) but without the charm! He is Australian after all.

I had to install this on Vista because my old Norton AV didnt support 64bit and I am glad I did. The program is very unobtrusive and aside from the fact you can hear the hard drive going sometimes is nigh on undetectable.
Let me know if you want to give it a go over the Norton pops :).
