....what AV are you using at the moment.My son has just bought a new laptop with W7 on and is looking for some decent anti virus.he used Avira on his XP machine but wants to try new,downloaded Avast and did a run,full scan and it took over 2 hours.For a new machine with nothing on seems a long time, dont know why he did a scan but he did.

I bought a new laptop for xmas and installed Avast (free version) and it scanned super fast.  Can't understand why it took 2 hrs.

I've taken the plunge and installed a 90 day free trial of Norton Internet Security 2010 on my desk top and left MSE on my lap top. If things stay as they are over the weekend I will purchase the special deal from PC world because to be honest I am so impressed with it. It runs so smoothly and does not encroach at all, it also checks emails and spyware and I have not had a single problem unlike Kaspersky.

Wait till they ask you for more money after you've had it a year.  I thought when you bought Norton that was it.  Wrong

I'm running MSE and Avast (together with some remnanats of McAffee that came as a trial when I bought the laptop) and running XP.

They say that there should only be one AV app as there may be some conflicts but they seem to be working okay.

I had NIS2009 on a netbook and initially I was impressed,  the machine seemed undisturbed by it. I did run into trouble some months later with product updates not installing and I eventually gave up with it and indeed I ended with a completely different OS. So you could say that without Norton I wouldn't have bought a Mac

I just wanted to have a package that covers all and I never thought it would be Norton but I felt a 90day trial was worth installing as it seems that it is now easy to uninstall. So far it's been a pleasant surprise but we shall wait and see and I will report back.

It's just nice to see that every one on here keeps an open mind about things (if you don't like something in the past you wont like in the future and if it is updated it must be faulty and if they don't then they don't care about problems).
