If the bandwidth is being saturated by something, eg P2P, then everything else sees problems.

I can't think of anything that would be saturating the bandwidth, and I definately don't have P2P running on anything, but I'll check everything that's connected next time to see if it could be anything my end.  I seem to recall (but I'll have to double check the next time it happens) that LAN access between my laptop and desktop is unaffected though, e.g. accessing file shares.

That would make sense as you have a 54Mbps connection to play with there, rather than <8Mbps on the net.

The only other I noticed is that yesterday the VP capacity of the local exchange was changed from red to green on this page http://usertools.plus.net/exchanges/?exchange=Sleaford&exact=1276&plugin=vp.  It says the status was changed on 29th, but the page definately wasn't updated until late on 31st Jan or early 1st Feb.

The problem with those pages is that they are reliant on BT, who are very good at not doing what they say, or doing something without warning. :(
