I noticed last night First Direct (part of HSBC) will be using it soon.

I received a spam e-mail yesterday from HSBC. The sender was 'hsbcnet.com'. Checked it out via Google and it is a genuine HSBC e-mail address. Subject line was "HSBC Secure Suite - Online Banking alerts from HSBC".
As I do not do online banking with anyone and have never had any association with HSBC I obviously didn't open it.
But this raises a couple of points, how did HSBC come to be in possession of my e-mail address and why on earth would they send me an online banking alert when I do not bank with them.

Farming of email addresses from other sites, random addresses in the hope some are genuine etc, Ian. They usually seem to end with the giveaway - if you are not a customer... Someone is probably spoofing the email address and looking to hook unsuspecting customers. HSBC might appreciate a copy if you haven't deleted it.

I did wonder about that Rik, might contact them on Monday see what they say.
I have kept it, to show my Gran-daughter what a spam e-mail is. She has only had a GoogleMail address a few weeks and I have been trying to educate her on the dangers of the internet, she went to give her GMail password as one of her kids names  soon put her right on that and showed her how to make difficult but memorable passwords.
I can't remember anything so write mine down  ;D

I used that Rapport thing for a few weeks and it REALLY slowed down my browsing to the point where it annoyed me so much I removed it. I might give it another go though :) It's annoying however that it's always wanting to tell you about what you've accessed. While that is a good idea, the fact that it seems to decide when you get told, is annoying.
