Well I paid my £26.99 for the PC pre-order and got early beta access (www.play.com).

This game is incredible, wonderful, awesome and exciting. The graphics are great, the gameplay is smooth, the servers are good and best of all the hitboxes are absolutely perfect. I can't get over how good the hitboxes are - FINALLY a game that has decent hitboxes!

It took me a couple of hours to really get into, being a battlefield novice, but I quickly picked it up and got into the top places of the scoreboard. I love everything about this game save for the fact that crouch isn't toggle...but that is defining nitpicking.

I'v also seen this game on a console and it doesn't play nearly as well. The PC definately comes out on top with this one.#

I can't beleive I paid £30 for the pile of junk that is MW2 when this cost me £27.99 - this is 400x the game that MW2 will ever be.

Seriously recommended. I think this game is going to save many an FPS clan from closure.

Sounds great, but what about the console version did not work well ?, I'm leaning more towards the console version since my buddies are gonna pick up that one.

Yea MW2 really got messed up beyond recognition  8-)

Console one was pretty good but it's quite a controll-ee game and the pads didn't offer the flexibility that the PC controls do. The autoaim always pees me off on consoles anyway...it's like "well why bother playing?". Sniping is a LOT more fun on the PC. Sniping on the console I found relied so much on the console-aids because it's so fiddly without them. If your mates are playing on PS3 then definitely go with that, but it means you won't have any of the competitive gaming opportunities.

I still haven't managed to fly a chopper without smashing it into the floor after 10 seconds of wobbling around in the air....I have no idea how my mate flies it like he does.

After seeing your post I did some research to make sure that there is a single player option without going online, which there is, so I have just ordered the Limited Edition version from Game for £24.99 and free delivery. I normally use Amazon but they have only got the standard version for the same price with free delivery. I am not bothered about the beta version, I can wait.

What is the date of the referendum for England to become an independent country ?

I'm quite tempted by this, it's been a while since I've played an FPS game but this one sounds good and thanks for the heads up on CoolShop  :thumb:

I've just pre-ordered it through Game ;D

Apparently after using Game on and off for 16 years, I have a points balance of 800 which is a £2 discount. Wow, it's so worth having... That being said, the only things I've bought from them in the last 4 or so years is Dragons age origins and Elder scrolls - Oblivion :D I think the only other thing I bought from them was a graphics card in the mid 90s :D

I had so much trouble with coolshop ordering MW2 that I had to cancel my order. They told me my payment was successful then a couple of days before release I realised I hadn't had a dispatch email. I went enquiring and they piddled me around before saying no order had been placed. I went elsewhere. Probably just a oneoff bad experience but they didn't treat me very pleasantly and I won't be going there again.

pro-tip for beta players if you can't fly choppers like me, find an empty server and push to the chopper then fly around a bit. It's dead easy to learn when you ain't being shot at. I spent about 45 minutes just flying around on my own in the Apache and had a great time!

I've never been able to fly the choppers/jets/planes in the BF series. Even when they dumbed down the flight system. I've tried it with a mouse, with keyboard, a combination of both, a joystick. It's just madness! Although if I'm lucky an enemy would be running towards the airfield and I'd drop out of the sky onto him ;D

But that is not the Limited Edition version that I wanted which is why I ordered it from Game at £24.99 post free, but Like you I did buy Call of Duty Modern Warfare 2 from Coolshop and actually received it prior to release date, not that you could install it before though.

Hehehehe, yea i know about the auto aim, but wouldn't there be a turnoff option in the game ?
Yea flying the choppers and plane in the BF series takes some practice, I bought a joystick for just battlefield 2 and that helped alot, soon I was flying around and terrorizing everybody like a pro ;D

Competitive gaming? You mean like tournaments and such?. Never played those anyways, I'm more of a pick up and play for the moment ; )

I dont know if any one has mentioned it but the pc version has a few pc extras like 32 palyers instead of 24 on the consoles, if you pre order from steam or a couple of other stores i think they are still giving access to the beta test which inlcudes one map and runs from the 28th jan to the 28th feb.

Most important both versions have dedicated servers
unlike MW2  :comp:

It's amazing. Remember that the current build is now 5 weeks old because of stability problems with the planned early-beta build.

I tried the Xbox version.  Didn't appeal to me either.  Poor framerate and sluggish controls compared to MW2.  Not amazing to look at either.

Niall

I'm starting to wonder about my pre order of this now as people playing the beta are saying that the hitboxes are far from perfect, and in actual fact, just as bad as they've always been in the BF series. That along with the single player supposedly being a short affair to get you used to gameplay for the online.

If this is all correct info, then I won't be buying it after all.

Well I would disagree with them. And you need to bear in mind that the PC beta is really a beta, not a demo like the console demos. The build we are currently playing on is 5 weeks old and was not updated as it was supposed to be for the early beta because the new build lacked stability.

Even so I would say the hitboxes are perfect even now. I have no idea why anyone would say otherwise unless they are playing on the console, in which case they won't care about something as deep as hitboxes anyway.

It takes time switching from a game like Cod to this game. The guns will do absolutely nothing if you hold the fire button like you would in CoD and you will find yourself aiming at clouds. As a CoD4 fanatic it took me a few days to adjust and at first I was huffing and puffing like the kids on the EA forums.

I used to hate DICE for what they let BF2 turn into but I have massive respect for them now that they have produced this game. It's easily on a par with CoD4 in terms of FPS evolution.

PS - if you are a PC gamer and liked MW2 don't bother this with game. Also you should probably think about getting a mental health check-up.

The people I've been asking are from long established BF playing clans, plus a couple of lads in work. They've been playing the beta on high end PCs, on empty servers with just the three of them there. Basically there really couldn't be a better source from the testing side of things for the info they've given me. Shooting people 5 times in the face to be killed with one shot from the enemy that should now be dead, etc. The usual story with BF.

My major concern is the single player, followed by the hitboxes. I want a single player game that ALSO has multiplayer, not a multiplayer game that has a WEAK single player. While I appreciate the fact that a lot of people like multiplayer gaming (been there, done that and the lan events TO DEATH) I want something that I can appreciate without having to be online!

The last BF I had, I played add ons/conversions with which improved all the failings of the game, but the hitbox issue was what killed off the game for me.

So, if the single player is the usual virtually non existent affair and the hitboxes still suck, then even at £24.99 for something that has nice looking graphics, I won't be paying for it as I know it'll pee me off within 20 minutes of playing!

Oh and I didn't play MW2 as I waited to see the response on gameplay, which was awful, especially considering the amounts of cheats released in the first week for it. This is another reason why I want single player fun!

Some stuff defiantly needs fixing before the game is released, today i decided to go on a stabbing rampage and found that often i would stab a guy in the back and it just does not register that it hit them. I think that the hitboxes still need some work, many times i will unload a pistol into someone and they turn round and shoot a couple of times and i die when they should have been dead before even having a chance to fire.

One thing i like the most is that you are not an Olympic sprinter and don't speed around whilst on foot covering huge distances in seconds even when you hold the sprint key sprint.

The game has potential and hopefully by release it will be working better and crashing less. It really is fun when it works and compared to MW i would still rather play this in it's current state than MW4/5.

Yeah that's the other thing a lad in work said today. The weapons aren't as realistic, damage wise, as they should be. I forget which ammo he was talking about, but some silly large calibre ammo takes 5-6 shots to kill people.

As I've got to buy a router this coming payday, I may just cancel the order now.

I too am seriously thinking if canceling my pre-order with Game, as I am also interested in the single player side and not the online gaming and the more I hear of problems with it, the more I am determined.

Well I have been playing the PC closed beta and cant say that I am too impressed. The effects are nice and the destructible environment is a step in the right direction but hit box registration is poor and the biggy for me is the fact you cant go prone in the game. So if you want to snipe you have to do it standing up or crouched, which makes you as inconspicuous as Ronald MacDonald. The sights on the sniper rifle are bad too, most of the the zoomed in image is blurred (supposed to look like chromatic aberration I think, but it just obscures most of your screen and the sights used on real-life sniper rifles like Leupold or Schmidt and Bender do not suffer from it). Max is 32 player servers in multiplayer which is a backwards step from BF2 (64 player) and BF3 which is rumored to have a 100 player limit.

EA have rolled several classes into one for this release so there is no dedicated support, anti-tank or special forces class

To me it looks like a poor console port. I will be saving my money in the hope that Battlefield 3 corrects this.

My jury is still out and I haven't cancelled yet.

This is a utube video regarding tactics.  There is a small amount of swearing so be warned.  The guy does reference the Xbox which is a little disconcerting...
