Has anyone tried scanning into an OCR programme using a multifunction printer/scanner via wireless/ethernet? I've been trying to scan a document into Omnipage from my network Canon MFP and the OCR programme keeps throwing an unknown error and can't scan the document, yet it is finding the scanner with no problem.

I then tried connecting the MFP via usb to my PC and there is no problem with scanning the  document into my OCR application, any suggestions would be welcome.

I've just tested it using MS Office and my HP Premium Photosmart, Ray, and it works fine.

Could the scanner have defaults which the OCR doesn't like?

Ray Is network scanning supported by the printer? Edit Or should I say does Omnipage support network scanning ? Can you scan the document and then save as tiff and then use Omnipage.

I'm puzzled, Rik, it works fine over wireless using the Canon software and I can scan into Photoshop Elements with no problem, it only seems to be Omnipage that won't work over Wireless/ethernet network, the image below shows the very helpful error message I'm getting.  :P

It would appear that it should from their suport site, Steve, no problem at all if I use the Canon software and scan with it set to send the scan to Omnipage, this opens up, loads the scan and you can OCR it.

I wonder if a re-install would help, Ray?

Thanks, Rik,I tried doing this yesterday, but it made no difference I've even tried reinstalling all the Canon printer software and drivers to no avail.

strange thing is I've installed an older version of Omnipage on my other Win 7 pc and it works perfectly. :shake:

I think I'll have to email Nuance support to see if they can come up with a solution.

I use Paper Port, from the same company, Ray. I tried scanning into that and got a similar message. Maybe they didn't write their scanning code with networked scanners in mind.

No, Paperport can't communicate with the scanner on my main PC, but the strange thing is Omnipage will work with a network scanner on my other MC and it uses the same scanner setup wizard as the one installed on the main MC. Which seems to point to something on my main PC that is blocking communication with the scanner.

Problem solved, now works with Paperport and Omnipage, seems to have been a combination of the Firewall and altering an advanced setting in the Scanner setup wizard. :thumb:

In Paperport I ran the ScanDirect application and the Firewall popped up a dialogue asking if I wanted to allow twainclient.exe to act as a server so I answered yes and the native scanner interface then came up and allowed me to scan a document.

I then tried a scan from the main Paperport application which was also succesful.

With Omnipage I had to go into the advanced setting on the scanner setup wizard and tick allow it to show the Native scanner interface, if you leave this set to the default to hide the native interface it will do the scan but throws an error when it tries to load it into the main application window.
