:karma: :welc: I don't have experience of de-branding routers, is it possible just to flash it with the last firmware from Netgear for that version?

Same as Glenn here, but stick around, and I'm sure someone will answer more fully soon.  :)

I know there's a recovery utility for netgear routers but don't think it applies to V3, I can see no harm if you have an upgrade menu button in trying a firmware upgrade using the V3 Netgear firmware

Edit This is the method for Sky's version, I hope its useful as a template http://www.kitz.co.uk/routers/skyDG934.htm

Is the router picking up DNS addresses from your ISP?

To connect to AOL I presume your supposed to use their software which might not work once you've changed the firmware . However if you input the username, password and the DNS servers to the Netgear hopefully you'll connect. List of DNS servers here http://www.kitz.co.uk/isp/dns.htm and more here http://www.kitz.co.uk/isp/AOLsetup.htm

I had a 834g from Ebay which was from AOL, brand new in AOL packaging and basically it was just a regular 834g. I used it until I swapped to the 2700 and then gave it to a friend who is using it on BT.
It was a while back, they must have changed their policy, sometime?
