As per usual I'll make sure I do a backup beforehand just in case.
I also have Deep Freeze on my machine, I often download the updates with Deep Freeze on first thing in the morning and run all day to make sure there are no problems and if everything is OK I download them on the unfrozen machine the next day. Having been trashed twice by MS updates I don't take chances anymore

We use deepfreeze in one of the colleges I visit, all student machines are deepfrozen with no antivirus and Windows updates turned off as well. Over the years we have stopped monthly updates and instead update those machines a couple of times a year. Staff machines are not deepfrozen so any problems with updates (Thankfully none so far) should be picked up by staff rather than students who are doing exams.

Hmmmm, I look after a number of Windows machines for a number of companies and until today had not seen any problems with updates...but this morning I had a call from somebody saying his XP machine was in a StartMenu / Restart loop and no matter which option he picked (Safe mode, Last known good, etc.) it just either froze or rebooted. Went and looked at the machine and the Windows folder / Config.msi were both updated around 3am which is when Windows updates happen by default.

I'm unable to start the machine and everything I try reports no problems. I've pulled his data off (Boot from a Hiren CD & simply copy to USB) and I'm pretty confident that there is no physical problem with the machine but due to time pressure I'm going to have to simply rebuild it rather than try and work out what the problem is

Not necessarily related to Windows update but Config.msi being modified at 03:02 and the Windows folder at 03:04 makes me suspiscious!

Logged on early this morning to my laptop running XP and got a message to say it had been updated and needed to re-boot. It rebooted okay but what annoys me is that every time it does this there are two options on the message, one says update now and the other says update later but the latter one is aways greyed out and it goes ahead and reboots whether I accept it or not  

Anyway it rebooted okay and I was able to login alright afterwards.

I have it set to just inform me when updates are available and then I can install and reboot when I choose.

I installed the 8 updates for Vista with no apparent problems.

Same here Noreen,,,just installed the10 updates. Running XP,  no problems.

I ended up running Windows repair on the XP system that had crashed which enabled it to boot again. I then manually updated it (about 70 high priority updates, took 4 update cycles) and had no problems at all. At least the client will be happy with the minimal interuptions!

For any one else with an XP machine in trouble since the updates read here for a possible solution.

My WHS is having issues since the updates   The connector no longer works, I can't repair or reinstall it either. The certificate used to connect via Remote Desktop is now invalid too

Not that its any consolation but mine is ok following the updates, I wonder if its anything to do with the X file edition? Is there a Server 2003 repair console like in XP?

I have just checked my WHS and it has updated without any issues either.
