On my Palm, I have a flat database called JFile, which is great for storing information. It supports time, date, boolean, integer, floating point and strings fields, can sort on multiple fields and search on any field. It even does some simple calculations.

I'm looking for something similar for Windows, so that I can better organise all the jottings, hints, tips, URLs etc that I accumulate, but I haven't yet found anything that fits the bill and there seem to be hundreds of flat file databases available in shareware.

So, if anyone has any personal experience along the lines I've outlined, and can suggest a program, I'd be grateful.

TIA

While the following text is not going to be relevant to databases in any way, you may well find it useful. ;D

So, on to the post; have you tried Google Notebook? Given the use cases you supplied you might find it useful.

Hadn't thought of that, Adam, thanks - I'll give it a try and see if if I can make it do what I want...

Hi Siege

If the PDA is Palm OS, then JFile is perfect for my needs, you can find it here. I'm still looking for a PC equivalent, but am going to explore Adam's suggestion of Google Notebook (when I have a moment to draw breath...).

How about the database component of OpenOffice (open source). Not used it myself as I'm a SQL Server/mySQL Database programmer. Details here.

Rob.

Thanks, Rob. If it's at all like Access, which I do have, it will be far too cumbersome for my needs. However, I'll go take a look and find out...
