I am so happy!
I am so glad that I can leave o2 access behind like the bad joke that it is to come and join the happy people at IDNet!
Thank you so much to all of the people who have offered me help and advice in the last couple of weeks!

I'm not getting super fast speeds but I didn't really expect that to tell you the truth. I am just happy that I'm getting 4x the speeds I was getting at this time of night with o2!!

Here is my thinkbroadband speedtest for tonight:

PS, Even though I am in my training period at the moment, I have not yet disconnected! Its as smooth as a whistle and I can really tell the difference!  :ithank:
What on earth was I thinking going on to O2 Access?!
Fortunately I got rid and discovered IDNet!

Glenn

Have an official  :welc: now that you are with us Helen.

Welcome Helen, If you get chance we could do with some router stats and a BT speedtest result that line should really be performing better. :thumb:

Thank you Glenn! I am so glad to be here! (Cue Oscars acceptance speech)

At one point I thought it wasn't going to happen as the email didn't come through until 6.30!
I've just been talking to my friend who works for BT (boo, hiss!) and apparently there is significant work going on in our exchange 24/7 at the moment as apparently some of the lines are knackered (not the word she used!!)

Thanks Steve. If you don't mind I'll look into the speedtest results tomorrow as its been a really long day today and I'm shattered!
See you around then though! :)

My speeds are as follows:

Can't get modem stats as the username and password do not work! :(

I've also purchased a shielded RJ11 which goes from the back of the router to the filter! :)

I am sooo not a techno head! :rofl3:

Baz

what router do you have. this  is a good site which may help or some one here will know how to help if you can tell us the router type

hells bells

Woohoo! Got into the router!

ADSL Link Downstream Upstream
Connection Speed 1401 kbps 555 kbps
Line Attenuation 43.0 db 22.8 db
Noise Margin 15.0 db 5.2 db

Is this the info you were after last night Steve?

I've got the Netgear DBG834 modem straight from IDNet.

Thanks for the welcome everyone! Loving it on IDNet! :D

Helen, there is a lot of noise on your line from somewhere, the noise margin is set at the max figure 15db. Hopefully over the next few days it will settle, and your connection speed will increase considerably.

Well the boyfriend never shuts up, does that interfere with it?!  Could someone create a mute button for him?!  :hehe:

The only other thing is maybe a shielded RJ45?

Helen If you can get some results from http://www.speedtester.bt.com/ as well . I think eventually your going to have to use the Test Socket on the BT master socket to try to identify where your boyfriend's plugged into. >:D

Just been to that site and here are the results of my speedtest for my line (not my boyfriend!)  :rofl3:

QuoteDownload speedachieved during the test was - 902 Kbps
For your connection, the acceptable range of speedsis 200-1000 Kbps.
Additional Information:
Your DSL Connection Rate :1401 Kbps(DOWN-STREAM), 555 Kbps(UP-STREAM)
IP Profile for your line is - 1000 Kbps
The throughput of Best Efforts (BE) classes achieved during the test is - 16.19:18.51:65.3 (SBE:NBE:PBE)
These figures represent the ratio while sententiously passing Sub BE, Normal BE and Priority BE marked traffic.

I'm already plugged into the Test Socket on the BT master socket (there is only one socket on this line)

Off to bed in a minute but I'd just like to thank you again for this! :)

Hi guys. These are my stats this evening.

QuoteADSL Link Downstream Upstream
Connection Speed 1479 kbps 536 kbps
Line Attenuation 43.5 db 22.9 db
Noise Margin 14.6 db 5.0 db

The line attenuation seems to have gone up 1.5 db since fitting the shielded RJ11 cable!
Is this normal?

Steve

I wouldn't have thought it would make any difference, The hope is that once the initial training period is over (it used to be 10 days for adslmax) you may see that Noise margin reduces and your downstream sync rises,if it doesn't you'll need to contact support to ask them to have a word with BT.

I know its early days still but I've noticed a small problem.

Every so often, my pages time out and my router seems to stall but doesn't disconnect. Could this be part of the training period too?
I'm hoping so!

I get that too, Helen, but I just refresh the page and it always works.  It doesn't happen often enough for me to have bothered doing anything about it, but if it happens to several people, it might be worth investigating.
