I don't need a microfilter but...

Hi all I was wondering where the best place to get a good quality RJ11 to 431A cable? Don't have phones on the line and experimenting with what I have (couple of microfilters and a modem cable) I have seen varying results so would like to spend/waste a few quid on seeing if I can get a better result with a "quality" product rather than the contents of my spares box!

Looks the same as I have, was hoping for something saying ultra super fast with maybe braided shielding or neon plugs?

I don't seem to have a master socket here maybe I should go about fitting one and couple it with your initial suggestion

Do you mean a filtered master socket? If you have an NTE5, you could legally fit a filtered faceplate, but you can't fit a master, or an NTE5 yourself.

I think the first lead I linked to has shielding, I use something similar myself and for me it's seemed to help. Others have found them to be worse than the supplied lead. The important thing to remember is it's best to have the shortest possible lead between router and socket, and extend the ethernet cable length if required, a single segment can be up to 100m, but I'd say 50m is safer.

Neons and LEDs are harder to come by.

Well if I'm not allowed to fit an NTE5 does that mean I have to get BT to do it?!

The search for a better lead is purely born out of a couple of hours spare between chores to be honest, the quest for a chav lead is not a pressing one really

Legally, only BT can work on the 'exchange side' wiring. Once you have an NTE5, you can do anything you like on the internal side of it. It might be worth a call to 150 to see how much they would charge. I've seen answers ranging from free to £135, so it depends who you talk to. I'm trying to find the official price, but since BT took the price list off public view, it's proving hard.

Ok found an NTE5 in the cupboard under the stairs. Going to get an ADSLNation faceplate and a double ended rj11 and that should keep me from messing about with it any more
