You have had a lot of noise Tony, the margin has raised to 16db. If you have a NT5e master socket, can you try plugging the router into the test socket behind the faceplate? http://www.kitz.co.uk/adsl/socket.htm shows how to do it.

ah, i couldnt get the cover off cos its stuck behind a bit of wood, i'll mess around with it and see if i can get it to work properly

Glenn

If you can get it removed, then plugging the router directly in to the test socket will eliminate the internal wiring.

how about thistheory, i hit my download limit, do u think idnet capped my speed?

Simon_idnet

Hi Tony

We don't do that. You're welcome to use as much bandwidth as you wish so long as you're happy to pay the £1 per GB for any used in excess of the included allowance for your package.
Simon

tony_dudz

ok thanks, maybe its a regional problem

What Simon said, Tony, but in addition, the sync speed is set between the router and the exchange equipment long before you reach IDNet. You have some serious noise there - we'll  do our best to help you track it down. It's not regional, it's local.

MisterW

That's a VERY low downstream synch even with 16db margin, any chance that you've got an unfiltered phone, fax modem or Skybox connected ?

Almost certainly not. It's most probably something in your house or a line fault.

Have you plugged anything new into your phone line or moved anything around recently? Sky Box? Burglar Alarm? Cordless phone? Has anyone bashed the phone line with the hoover or ran an extension over with a chair?

What is the quality of the phone line like? If you make a voice call do you hear any noise or crackling?

Cheers,
Paul.
