Hi all,

Like many I have now cancelled my BB account with O2 access. I have done alot of research into who my new ISP will be and think I have finally settled on IDnet. Due to living in a fairly rural area I am limited to ADSL of upto 8mb. Now my question...On the IDNet website when I bring up the option to choose this, it doesn't appear to give me the option of using an existing phone line which it does on ADSL+. Is there any reason why I couldn't use say a BT land line with IDNet broadband?

Any help would be useful

Cheers
Alex

You can use a standard BT line with ADSL from Idnet, just enter your existing phone number on this page and go from there.

Thanks for your quick responses.

I wasn't sure if there was a catch which meant that I would have to use IDnet's phone package on the ADSL package.

I think I'm going to plump for the Home Max package which gives me 30gb peak and 60gb off peak. I'm hoping that will cover all my usage as their is three of us moving into a new property. Out of interest what is the usage checker like for IDnet?

Cheers

If you use the RSS feed you'll get a daily update,it can be a bit inaccurate in its predictions in the early days of each month.

Perhaps too late for Alex but isn't it unwise to use the word "cancel"? He wishes to migrate to IDNet surely?

alexpainez

Thanks again,

I have actually cancelled my Broadband with O2 as I had enough and am due to move house so was expecting to be without Internet for a week or so (plus didn't want to go through the effort of obtaining my MAC code!) Does this affect me in any negative ways (ie the fact I am not migrating but starting a fresh account) The other issue I had was that the broadband was paid for by my ex housemate, and we paid him in turn as he had an 02 phone account thus saving us £5.

Lance

Welcome to the forum.

The fact that you are moving house makes all the difference. Normally, if the broadband is being moved from one ISP to another on the same line, migrations are free and avoid the broadband activation fee of approx £47.

Because it is a different line, cancellation was the correct thing.

Thanks Lance,

That put my mind to rest. When I follow the link I was given in one of the above posts it still doesn't give me the option of using an existing line, only the Lite only option for +£10.00. Is this something I'll be able to correct once I actually go into the ordering form? Plus does anyone know from experience how long BT take to assign me a phone number once I request one at my new property (they had an existing line so shouldn't get stung for £140!)

Thanks again

The entry next to IDNet Broadband Package: is a drop down box, if you click on the down arrow to the right of the box you get all the other package options.

I am not sure you avoid BT's £147 charge if the previous owner has taken their number with them, talk to Idnet sales to get full information

Hi,

I have all the drop down boxes-

Telephone number (Blank)

IDNet broadband package (Home Max 24.99)

IDNet Phone Package (This is the issue- none of the options let me use an existing line - the cheapest option is line only £10?)

I thought I would only have to pay the £147 if they need to install a line, but me wrong I'll check before ordering. I think in my new property they simply had to activate for me as the line was already installed by previous tenants.

Sorry about all the posts. I should probably email IDnet directly and save us all some time!!

Ray

Alex are you looking at this page because there in an option in the phone package drop down to keep your existing telephone provider.

For me the first option in that box reads "I wish to keep my existing telephone provider", the £10 option is the second on the list.

You would do better to telephone sales on the 0800 701 2000 freephone number

Cheers,

That's bizarre, on my screen that option doesn't exist! Just starts with 'Line only.' Interestingly enough if I go through the ADSL2+ option it gives me the correct option. Just not on the ADSL option. Perhaps it's because I'm viewing it from work? I'll try from home later I guess

Glenn

Maybe it is because you are on a ADSL2+ exchange, and BT are not accepting new orders for ADSL connections? Talk with support free on 0800 701 2000

Baz

what deal were you on with O2 Alex.

just thinking  guys if Alex is already on a ADSL package will the checker on IDNet recognise this and just give the ADSL+ options  :dunno:   just a thought

This is how mine looks. I think Glenn's correct you won't get a new adslmax connection on an adsl2+ enabled exchange.

Hi,

I was on O2 home access, but that was on a different exchange. I'm a bit confused with the exchange (Dorchester DT1 1LU) I will be moving to and what options it gives me. It says that the only LLU operator is Talk Talk who I am giving a wide berth to. It says that ADSL and ADSL2+ are offered but whenever I put the postcode into any checkers it tells me I can only receive ADSL.

Any ideas?

Steve

Alex. The website samknows says adsl2+ not available yet. rfs 31/3/2010. Although this site isn't always up to date

http://www.samknows.com/broadband/

In the footnotes it says enabled, so who knows? Idnet will.

Since he hasn't got an actual phone number to enter yet, how would the system know if ADSL2 was available on his new line ?

I can't help with the tech stuff, but as has been said, IDNet will have all the answers for you.  :)
