For the past few days my modem is not sync'ing at above 2mbps.

Today I tried changing the filter, and also bypassing the surge protector attached to the line. Also rebooted the modem a couple of times.

Internet otherwise works fine, just very very slowly...

Already sent in a ticket earlier, but... Any ideas?

Steve

It would be useful if you could post your router stats http://www.kitz.co.uk/adsl/frogstats.php and also the results of a BT speedtest http://www.speedtester.bt.com/

I did do a BT speedtest, but the results weren't particularly interesting. I was getting about 75%-80% of the speed I was sync'ed at. I can do another if necessary though.

Siverblade.

The downstream margin is elevated at 9 hence the reduced sync, looking at the downstream att you should in theory be capable of at least twice that. All you can do yourself is eliminate any internal sources of noise i.e http://www.idnetters.co.uk/forums/index.php?topic=1904.msg31528#msg31528 paying particular attention to the bell or ring wire and using the test socket if you have a BT NT5E master socket

The socket I have is just a basic one with no panels that can be removed for testing etc.

I have now moved the modem closer to the socket, and changed the cable to a shorter one - the previous one was longer and runs next to a few other wires.

This has not made much difference (in fact I am now connected at an even slower speed...)

So, I have changed the filter and cable, and there are no other devices on the line.

We've not had any problems aside from the lack of connection when switching to the faster ADSL service, and nothing has actually been changed recently. So I'm not quite sure why this problem would suddenly begin.

Regarding the bell wire, if that is connected we would presumably have noticed problems previously...?

What else could be causing this?

I do know that adsl2+ is more sensitive to noise than adslmax. What modem/router are you using?

Linksys ADSL2MUE with the RouterTech firmware installed (firmware has not been changed recently, this is the same modem I have used on the adsl2+ service always.)

Steve

I think check with support tomorrow and see what they suggest, they will probably need a recent Bt Speedtest. Have you access to another modem/router to see if the stats are comparable?

Rik

It might also be worth checking for updated firmware for the Linksys.

The Linksys modem is using RouterTech firmware (ie, 3rd party firmware) which I don't update that frequently and haven't for a while - BUT it has been perfectly fine since I last updated it a few months back so I am hesitant to update the firmware. I mean, physical faults develop, but a piece of firmware is unlikely to start going wrong of its own accord, right? ;)

Anyway, I have just discovered that my landline phone also has no dialtone when picked up, nor does it ring when called.

Also on closer inspection I may be wrong about the master socket/test socket faceplate - from looking at BT's site it does look like it may have a removable panel (it's not in a particularly easy to access place, the socket, since I have a desk wedged up fairly near it.) So I'll test this tomorrow and try and borrow a corded phone (ours is cordless.)

But I'm pretty sure the two problems are going to be linked...

Glenn

If you have no dial tone after using a corded phone, then log a voice fault with line provider.
