I'm looking for a screen recorder that's free and also can record a section of the screen.

I am not sure what you mean by a screen recorder, but Fraps ( http://www.fraps.com/ ) will record either pictures or video.

An app that records your desktop or a window on your desktop.. So I can do site demos etc!

I've seen the output from fraps before which seemed quite good quality.
