Opera 10.50 for Windows is released

I installed Opera 10.50 the other day as an upgrade to the currently installed version and I appear to have lost the File > Edit etc, dropdown menu items. Right-clicking yields only Cusomise>Appearance options. Using opera:config doesn't seem to show up anything useful either.

Keyboard shortcuts are still working for most of the missing items but they're a pain for a boring old browser.

Anyone else had this?

Left click on the red Opera (half hidden) icon up in the top left corner of the browser screen and in the drop down menu that appears click "Show Menu Bar" - this will give you the 'hidden' File, Edit etc.

Hope that helps.

Left (and right) clicking on the red Opera icon offers the same limited choices, none of which is the the option to "Show Menu Bar".

It's also disabled my default skin and I can't get it back.

Opera often removes skins that are not written for the latest version at upgrade, I just reinstate them manually.

Another thanks for the screenshot explanation DorsetBoy. Made My post as I was going to bed last so didn't have time to do any screenies.
I think the only thing that has annoyed me with the upgrade from Opera 10.10 to 10.50 has been that all my custom per site JavaScript settings have all been returned to the default and have spent the last couple of days resetting them as I visit the relevant sites. Other than that I use it nearly all the time now, I was a FireFox man but as I have got used to Opera I've liked it more and more.
It would also be nice if they would do something about making GoogleMail able to work properly.

what screen grab software did you use, I normally find the default Windows PrintScreen sufficient but have been thinking of installing something more sophisticated for a while but never got round to it.
Any advice/opinions gratefully received

That was just "Print Screen" and then loaded into "Paint". In Vista and Win7 the "Snipping Tool actually gives a better screenshot,I was just too lazy at that time of AM to go into the Accessories menu so I just hit the keyboard button. ( Snipping Tool now added to TaskBar for next time )

Thanks for the detailed reply DorsetBoy but I don't have the half-hidden logo anywhere (I thought DarkStar was referring to the normal icon that appears at the very top).

Oh well, I'll just keep plodding away with Ctrl+F12 until I find the answer.

Well the only other thing I can think of is to run the Opera.exe again and select "Repair" to see if that helps,other than that Opera Community may have some comment on the problem.

I'm puzzled that the Reload and Home icons shown in drummer's screenshot appear to be those of earlier Opera versions.

Are you quite sure you really do have Opera 10.50 drummer? Apologies if I'm seeming patronising....

This Community Discussion is running on the subject of the missing toolbar (and gives the reasons for removing it).

To make the Toolbar appear use the "Alt" button. If that fails then a reinstall seems to be required.

I found the Alt button suggestion on a different thread on the community forums and it worked. You stole my thunder!

Seriously though, thanks for taking the time.

Incidentally, running the installer again didn't offer the repair option, just a "do you want to upgrade?" message. Not a problem though as everything is now back to normal.

PS for dudwell - I reverted to an older skin from my existing skins folder which probably explains that.

I tried it again - it lasted 10 minutes and got uninstalled. Guess I just don't like the way Opera works, or I especially like the way FF does. Whatever it is, I keep trying different versions and take an instant dislike to it.

I tried it again on my wifes laptop, it came off it quickly, for some reason I have never been able to feel at home with Opera, indecently last years safest browser to use was IE8! It blocked 81% of Malware it also blocked 83% of phishing URLs , FF trailing second with 27% and 80% for those two categories, followed by Safari, 21% Chrome 7% and Opera 10 1% for Malware, Chrome fared better for Phishing at 26% Opera 10 at 54% and safari at 2%. How times change.

The first couple of times I tried Opera I gave up as I couldn't find things............ tried again a few months later and have never left,for me now none of the other browsers feel right, Opera has everything I need in logical places and there is a wealth of extras if I wanted them.

I can find all I want, I just never got on with it, I agree its a great browser in many ways, if a little lax in its protection, but I just do not like it and I really don't know why, same with chrome, I'm happy with FF and Safari on my mac for now
