but starting a new 10 days should mean a margin reset as it wont get the true MSR?

Rik

Mine never shifted from the default I carried across from Max, 9db in my case.

I've always wondered this.. why does line attenuation go up when you upgrade?

When I was on 512kb my LA was 34db,
ADSL max it went upto 38db,
Now ADSL2 its gone up to 42db.

Rik

Higher frequencies used suffer more from attenuation, Paul.

ta, now I know why  ;D

That's two things I've learnt this afternoon, best be careful  ;D

(other one is that adsl2 doesn't use noise margin like adsl1 did)

In what sense, Paul.

Baz

when you upgrade do you need to reboot router or just leave it

Rik

Leave it, Baz, the exchange work will force a re-sync.

Baz

how do you know when its done, do you get notice or will you just see a drop in connection, maybe if you are online at the time. Will it be on the day stated in the email ive had

Rik

You would see a drop in connection if you're around at the time. The quickest was to check is to look at the upstream speed in the router.

Baz

ok thanks again.

heres a before test

Rik

Definitely not changed yet, Baz. If it's scheduled for today, I'd call support now to see if they can tell you anything, they close at 6.

Mine went down for about 10 mins.

5 days in and my downstream has not changed and I'm still on my 15 noise margin from adsl1, not had any disconnections so this leads me thinking if there is actually a "10 day training" period.

If the downstream doesn't change by the 2nd April I will phone support.

Rik

There is definitely a training period, Paul, I watched my line start high and drop till it found a stable point.

The only thing that changed on my upgrade was upstream. a slight increase in downstream but I've got higher on a good noise margin day when rebooting the router when on adsl1. So this makes me think something is stuck somewhere.

I bet if I reboot the router tomorrow my sync speed will go lower than it was on adsl1.

Rik

If it happens, let IDNet know on Monday and they may be able to kick the tyres for you. However, BT are usually reluctant to do anything in the 10 days.

I'll wait to wednesday. 10 days is over then. Unless BT's training period is there working week and not a straight 10 days ??? :D

Rik

It's a straight 10 days.

Thanks.

Might aswell leave it to the 10 days is over with, then BT have no excuses, except for the usual "no problems found", "line not fit for broadband" etc.

Plus it gives IDnet a few more days break before I get on there backs again over my bloody annoying line  ;D hehe
