Baz

so how does it settle on what speeds I will get after the training as ive had some really bad speeds so far,on the low side that is.Hope it doesnt select the low ones as the norm

Rik

It will look for the maximum stable rate, as with all ADSL, Baz. What we're seeing, though, is that some lines just don't take to the ADSL2+ modulation, though the majority do. If it doesn't work out, IDNet can revert you to ADSL modulation, though you retain the higher upload speeds and the bandwidth allowance. I gained 1-1.5M myself, depending on which way the wind is blowing. ;)

Ive seen that mentioned before about switching back, all seems a waste of time if it doesnt work doesnt it :(

I wouldnt really benefit from faster upload speeds I think.what are you on now then Rik have you switched back

Rik

No, Baz, for me WBC was a success story. The important thing, though, is that once you're on a WBC connection, regardless of the modulation, you keep the extra bandwidth allowance.

Steve

Obviously any weaknesses in your home broadband setup are going to be found out on adsl2+

was that not the same with ADSL.what sort of weakness Steve

Rik

Noise, Baz. It was true of ADSL, but ADSL2+ is much more sensitive to noise, due to the higher frequencies used.

Baz

where does the noise interference come from,I bet you going to say that my router, sat behind monitor and in between telephone, printer and external HD is a prime place for some :)

Rik

Almost anything electrical, Baz - it might even be between you and the exchange, eg an industrial plant. You can check for internal noise by getting hold of a battery powered AM radio, de-tuning it so you only have white noise, then following the phone line from entry point to router. If you hear an increase in the noise level, you've found a noise source.

Baz

well I hope it picks up as im on day 4 and down to speeds of 2.45Mbps  :(

Rik

You may be one of the unlucky ones, Baz. The good news is that you can revert to ADSL modulation if that's the case, gaining your d/s speed back, gaining some u/s speed and retaining the extra bandwidth allowance.

Baz

do you think it should be better speeds by now Rik.I just dont understand how it can be worse than before when they advertise it as better :dunno:

Rik

The line is finding its feet, Baz. ADSL2+ produces increased speed for most people, but some lines just can't handle the extra frequencies are are better as Max modulation.

Whats your line stats / profile?

It could still be congestion on your exchange making your speeds slow.

Whats your line stats / profile?

It could still be congestion on your exchange making your speeds slow.

Download speedachieved during the test was - 2046 Kbps
For your connection, the acceptable range of speedsis 600-7150Kbps.
Additional Information:
Your DSL Connection Rate :3152 Kbps(DOWN-STREAM), 888Kbps(UP-STREAM)
IP Profile for your line is - 2500 Kbps
The throughput of Best Efforts (BE) classes achieved during the
test is - 19.5:24.19:56.3 (SBE:NBE:PBE)
These figures represent the ratio while sententiously passing
Sub BE,Normal BE and Priority BE marked traffic.

The results of this test will vary depending on the way your ISP
has
decided to use these traffic classes.

Rik

Slightly slow throughput for the profile, Baz, profile is correct for the sync speed. Remind me what you got with Max, will you?

Rik

That looks like you're a prime candidate for re-modulation, Baz.

damn >:( >:( >:(   what a waste of time...and money.why do BT do this, say you may get this speed or that speed then fail to come good.

Baz

I suppose i'll wait until the training time is up and see how it goes.got some suggestions from support to try but I cant see it working now.

zappaDPJ

It's not all bad, you should have more upstream bandwidth and of course you'll retain the more generous download allowances. I do know how you feel though, the same thing happened to me when I switched.

Baz

do you get the switch over fee back, like a refund when you return a faulty goods

zappaDPJ

I didn't Baz, although I didn't ask for one.
