This will take coverage up to 61% of UK households and businesses, the next batch of exchanges (to take coverage up to 75% by Spring 2011) is expected to be announced in a few months time.

We use to all joke around here about Bourne being the back of beyond, with locals and simpletons. Not were stuck in the stone age and their off into the future! :(

I'll post it again...

I use to have a signature, then it all changed to chip and pin.

Steve

I am surprised how much Bourne has changed in the last 10 years lots and lots of new developments

Hopw about a brace of succulent chump pork chops swimming in a port and stilton sauce for starters Rik.
Or maybe we should stick to a bowl of cornflakes (far more nutritious according to my doctor)

Me too! :(
Its not good Q I take it you are Rural? Our area has less a very low population count, and many are elderly, I cannot see WBC being put in here, we do not even have any other providers, its a BT only exchange  :(

Den

How is it that Wrexham (part of) has upgraded and now Hawarden and Mold, Gresford is in the middle and not mentioned any more.   :eek4:
Mr Music Man.

Glenn

I passed my driving test in and around Mold, many years ago.

Do the 2 exchanges have a bigger user base?

WBC will go in everywhere as BT wants to shut down the old network.

If it went in round here we would still get the same poor connection rates.  From a user pov it's not worth doing, unless they upgrade the cables through the village and I can't see that happening.  Even then, at 2.5 miles from the exchange it's doubtful we would get much more than 4/5meg.

Rik

They won't be doing it to improve the service for customers, Tac, it's purely for economics.

The "old network" that Rik refers to is the PDH/SDH telephone network, being replaced by a newer ethernet-based network using MPLS tunnelling over gigabit (and multi-gigabit) fibre. Telephony would be carried as VoIP.

It may not be economical to update an exchange with less that 2000 people on it Rik, and about 10 businesses, no one seems to know if and when it will happen, BT could not fund ADSL at some exchanges due to the lack of a Business Case; they having such small numbers of subscribers. They were eventually funded by other means. So there may be a case that its not financially viable to update such small exchanges surely? If they do upgrade however then its going to be another three years probably 2013 is the supposed finish date, by then I imagine so many services may be designed for the fast exchanges that for the small ones not on WBC wireless provider may have moved in and BT may lose custom..

Edit: It would seem Kijoma are now taking orders for a 30mbps wireless service in my area 6 mth contact with a upload speed of 20mbps, prices don't look to bad either, you have to have an aerial installed but for that speed with a 10ms latency it may well be worth it

I don't think anyone knows what the cut off point is in terms of subscribers.  My exchange has, according to SamKnows, 4600 residential subscribers and 149 non-residential - presumably business.  The only LLU are TT and Orange.

Whilst this is unlikely to give it a high priority for WBC, I would have thought it worth doing at some point, although the real problems round here are poor cables and ducting.

We have a lot less than that and no LLU providers, I have asked Kijoma about their WIFI Encrypted network, for £23 +vat you get 20GB for the speeds advertised, and without profiling or copper getting in the way, it may be well worth it 30mbps down and 20Mbps up is very tempting, I will have to see the cost of having an aerial installed, also it beats waiting 3 years possibly.

Rik

All I know is, Gary, that BT want to shut the old network down, and the price incentives for ISPs to move customers is significant. I can't believe, therefore that BT won't, eventually, replace every DSLAM with an MSAN.

By the time BT get around to the smaller exchanged ADSL2+ will obsolete  ;) Even virgin are trying new ideas like fibre from telegraph poles, BT just stagnate

Can anyone say roughly speaking how likely the dates for those exchanges are to slip? I Tranent is on the list which is good news for me 31st of March is the reported date. I'm wondering if it doesn't slip and they do actually get it done by then can I immediately place and upgrade order for it?

Glenn

I believe, when it is availble to you, it will show on your IDNet account page.

Mine has slipped from that 31/03/10 to not on the list at all. Support may have more information.

I shall see how things go in the days after its supposed to happen. Where is the most up to date list located? I've been going by SamKnows.

adamr8965

sames has happened to my exchange racer, was showing as 31/03/2010, phoned support and they said sam knows was well out of date, and that bt set a date, just to get the exchange dates up. Dont hold your breathe on anything happening at the end of the month.

Technical Ben

Or was it "BT set a date to string us all along and get us to trust them" or perhaps some other business incentive. Much like the broken promises of many. :(

hells bells

We already have 21 CN WBC and quite frankly, we can't tell the difference!
There has been no improvement in speeds or reliability (and we live in a city!). I'm happy to say though, its not hindered us either!

Roll on FTTC is all I can say!
What on earth was I thinking going on to O2 Access?!
Fortunately I got rid and discovered IDNet!

Rik

I also live in a city, but have gained 1.5Mb from WBC. It's very much a YMMV product.

I certainly would not hold my breath over BT, a good way to end up passed out on the floor.

Edit: lol! I just used the wholesale availability checker, the date has slipped a little....November 30th!
