Have to say that I am still enjoying using Opera 10.5, in particular the 'Opera Link' facility http://www.opera.com/link/start/  provided your PC's/Laptops are using Opera all are linked and updated automatically a very useful feature indeed. Do any other browsers have this facility?

Opera 10.5 is really very quick and fun to use. :thumb:

But I still don't like it for some intangible reason. :(

I keep trying to give Opera a fair chance but so far there are to many things I prefer in IE8. Question: How do I make my home page the default page when I open Opera? At the moment it opens the last page I viewed before closing down when I start Opera and it's starting to annoy me  :eyebrow:

That is because you have left settings to open the last visited page. ;D

Read through Preferences where you set Home Page, page at which to open, tabs, scrolling etc.  If you go to HELP there is a run down of all the settings.

Using Opera on the BBC home page I have tried to open the link to live football and it just locks up but opens fine in IE8

Just tried again and it will not open any link from that page  :eyebrow:

I can open all the pages/links on the BBC home page and BBC beta. Assuming the cookie settings are correct you can always Right Click on the BBC page > select "Edit site preferences" > Mask as > choose a browser.

I should add that if you have a site which does not perform for you you can report it to Opera via the Help tab > "Report a site problem" option. ;)

I was just making it a little clearer and easier to achieve a successful result by talking Den move by move in case he was unaware of the route ;)

Thank you both  ;D  I'm still not certain if I like it anyware near as much as IE8 it just does not seem as logical in use and I have had more problems accessing sites than I have ever had with IE8.  :dunno:

I've used Opera for a few years now and prefer it over other browsers BUT 10.5 for me is a disaster. I installed it and had nothing but problems. It wouldn't display some pages correctly but the worst problem was that unless I set the skin to windows default all the submenus and options where not displayed at all, and no it wasn't because they were white text on a white background I checked that.

I spent a few hours trying to get it to work correctly including multiple uninstall - reinstall till in the end I gave up and tried to return to 10.1. Then the fun really began, it would install 10.1 but all the problems from 10.5 remained. The only solution for me was to do a hard drive format and re-install an image of windows then re-install 10.1.

So I like Opera, I still use Opera 10.1 but 10.5  :argh: :argh:

All you had to do was remove the config files for Opera. If you check the Help files there are detailed instructions on how to back up Opera and all your settings prior to upgrade. It is often better and quicker to just back up , uninstall completely then install a fresh version ,after which you add your backed up config files, nothing can be lost that way and all your settings are carried over for you.

Certainly there is no need whatever to reformat a drive to change any program.

Nice idea in theory, trouble is it didn't work :( I load all my apps onto a separate drive. I deleted the folder that contained the Opera files from there, then went to C drive and deleted anything that had anything to do with Opera, including any Opera labeled registry entries. Net result when version 10.1 was reloaded it still suffered the same problems as 10.5. The only answer I could think of was that Opera uses a registry key that is not identified as belonging to Opera. Thats when I did a reinstall of the OS image and everything has been fine with 10.1 since :)

No, if they hid a registry entry no one would be able to upgrade/remove and all their instructions would be pointless.

In Vista and Win7 the Opera files appear in 2 places in App. data. the one you want is in "Roaming" that holds the files that need removing.

In XP from memory the files needed are in Application data (which appears a few times for different users),again they are listed twice in different folders, many people miss the second set of entries.

It's win 7 where the problem occurred for me and whilst I'm not disputing what your saying in any way, all I can repeat is that for me, it did not work. I spent three and a half hours toothcombing C drive and the registry trying to find why the 10.5 problems remained to overlay onto 10.1 when I re-installed it. I couldn't find any reason so gave up and re-installed the OS. I suppose it could have been co-incidence and it was something else affecting Opera, I don't know  :dunno: :dunno:

Oddos, I do believe it's the funny files system of Windows 7. It creates "extra" copies of system, and program files all over the blooming shop!
You get one in "Program Files" unless it's a 32bit program, which means it will go into "Program Files (x86)". It then puts any changes to files, or save games, or settings etc into "roaming apps" as well. This means you get a per user access only to the program. One install copy, and as many user copies of editable files (like save games or settings etc). The plus side is all your settings are in one folder for you. The down side is they are no longer in "Program Files/(the program I just installed etc)". Add to this the permission settings, windows 7 locking you out of your own files, hidden files, system files, auto backups and restores AND windows getting confused as to if your the main users, admin, the dog, or to forget using it's clever files system and just dump the files back into the "program files" directory after all that.

I know this because I spent half a day looking for my Star Wars Saves. It's an old game, so it ran in "normal mode" then I tried it in "compatibility mode" and windows moved all my saves all other the place.  :rant2:
I use to have a signature, then it all changed to chip and pin.
