Its a steep learning curve at least I've progressed from a serial connection to an SSH connection (PuTTY ,Ubuntu 9.1o via virtualbox running on Mac OS X. The serial connection is a right pain as the chair's not comfortable at least with the SSH I can now lounge where I wish.

The serial lead is not very long so to use the console I have to be next to the plug  (which is connected to the router) with the laptop. Now with the SSH or LAN connection I can sit in the lounge etc and be a member of the household again ;D

The success stories board has an array of uses and applications for the sheevaplug.

Squeezebox server up and running on the Sheevaplug  Things got a lot easy for me after I installed webmin on Debian squeeze. CLI is not for me.

Now I start to worry about security.

Anyone who wants to play with a Sheevaplug without buying one can try this virtual one here I've not tested it but it runs on Virtualbox (I'm presuming the Windows version) the download is a virtual disk install of Debian Squeeze for the Sheevaplug.

Shame you can't emulate the ARM cpu as well to get a truer performance feel. I've not seen any evidence that it will run anything like an SMF forum.
