Tomorrow I will be completing a CCTV installation at a farm. Today openreach completed activating the telephone line which has been ordered via Idnet, the problem is the customer did not order a Netgear modem from Idnet.
I will most likely have to pick one up and configure it on site using my laptop as no other computer will be used on the site and we just want to access the CCTV from the customers home.
Will any router do for this (a cheap Netgear, PC world have one for about £35) or in fact do I need a router or will just a ADSL modem be OK?

How do the cameras connect to the internet? Wifi or ethernet cable.

A modem has only one port and needs "something" i.e router or PC to 'dial' the connection.

Ethernet cable direct from the DVR to the modem / router

Any modem router (as opposed to just a router) should do the job fine, Den.

It might be worth considering a small UPS for the router, if you haven't already, Den.

The customer contacted Idnet and James is sending a router out to day. The DVR is a new model with 1tb hard drive and the new True day/night cameras are superb. Using light spillage from the shippins they gave excellent colour footage at 12.30 last night.
