HTC Desire

For those that either can't afford an iPhone, or would prefer an Android base smartphone, then I don't think you will go too far wrong with the HTC Desire. I have had mine now for a 5 days, it is a fantastic phone, with a 1Ghz CPU 512mb and 576mb ram, plus up to 32Gb of micro sdhc storage (comes with 4Gb card fitted). The resolution is 800 x 480 on a 3.7" AMOLED screen which is very bright and responsive, Flash 10.1 should be available very soon.

Email can be setup to use Google mail, Exchange or any pop3/IMAP accounts, using either push or pull mail.

I couldn't help but think how much more powerful that spec is than my first computer, Glenn. What's battery life like?

Around about a charge each day, so far. Today since 8am when I took the phone off charge, it is showing 70% capacity remaining.

I have got an android phone (Samsung Galaxy) and I must say I prefer it to the iPhone. I like the speed, that it will play DivX/Xvid video, the fact that the vast majority of apps/widgets on market place are FREE and unlike my old iPhone...it just works.

I've got an android (T mobile G2) I love it and prefer it to the iphone  ( and I love all things apple lol ) The only thing I don't like is that the battery life is rubbish. I have to charge it every night.

An iphone is no different from what I have seen, on charge each night.

Yeah must be the "always on internet" drains the battery.

I have a T-Mobile Pulse phone which is based on Android 1.5 (Quite old). No problems at all, decent security, good performance, plenty of apps available and so on. I do charge it every morning but then again I use it a fair bit during the day and my simple old Nokias always needed a daily charge as well! I fully expect that my next phone will be an Android as well although this contract has just over a year to run so something better may have come along by then.

How much space does these phones have for apps Glenn? I know the nexus was very limited for some odd reason at launch.

They are limited to around 512Mb at the moment, but an update is supposed to be on the way, so the apps can be stored and run on the SD card.

Cheers Glenn  I'll have to wait and see what the iPhone 4 brings to the table later this year as thats my chosen platform at the moment and I have about 128Mbs of apps. I do like the look of this HTC though.

The problem I have is that it would mean switching tariffs, as I am on a BlackBerry tariff at the moment, so it's not as simple as just swapping the SIM card.
