I noticed this morning that I have a low IP Profile:

QuoteDownload speedachieved during the test was - 9008 Kbps
For your connection, the acceptable range of speedsis 600-7150 Kbps.
Additional Information:
Your DSL Connection Rate :11888 Kbps(DOWN-STREAM), 784 Kbps(UP-STREAM)
IP Profile for your line is - 2500 Kbps
The throughput of Best Efforts (BE) classes achieved during the test is - 5.76:26.9:67.34 (SBE:NBE:PBE)
These figures represent the ratio while sententiously passing Sub BE, Normal BE and Priority BE marked traffic.

I should add that I don't often run the BT Speedtester so I have no idea of how long it has been this low and it doesn't sem to be affecting my download speed but is it something I should be concerned about? Could this be a result of my recent disconnections even though they were last month and haven't happened this month as far as I am aware?

Glenn

Can you download faster than the profile, 300kbs?

Does your router log show any disconnections, Inky?

Not since the one on the 29th Rik, it's been up constantly since then although that was the time I had 2 disconnections on successive days (28th, 29th)

Rik

I think the profile information is wrong, it seems to happen a lot with WBC. Your throughput is close enough to your profile.

This is clearly not possible ,speed achieved 9008kbps on a profile of 2500kbps ?

Did you run the BT test in safe mode?

No, should I run it in safe more and if so how would it make a difference? Surely, the IP Profile is set at the exchange? I must admit I don't read instructions though (Is that a guy thing? :)) and just tick the box, put in my phone number, click next, put in my username and wait for the results - there could be a wealth of information on the page that I miss!

I've no problem with the speed I achieve, it just struck me as odd that it was that fast given the supposed IP profile! I more commonly test speed with speedtester.net but having seen people posting results of the BT Speedtester I thought I would try it to see what it came back with and how it compares with speedtest.net.

Rik

Safe mode stops any background processes interfering with the test, Inky.

I can see that, but I would have thought that would have affected the achieved speed rather than the IP Profile? I have a SBS2003 box here that is running Exchange, that may be downloading stuff in the background but if I did get a lower than expected download I would simply run another speedtest/check sync speed in the router, over however many years I've run these tests I can't recall ever having an issue - I guess I'm not popular enough to get much email :(

No matter though, I'm happy with my speed - not as fast as some but faster than others!

The BT speedtest is the only one BT will take note of Inky. So that is the one to use really.
Damned, if you do damned if you don't

It would, but it's a step that's useful in diagnosing any speed issues...
