Guy Kewney dies at 63. :rip:

For anyone who reads or has read the computer press over the past 30 years, he is a wel known and highly respected journalist.  He died after an illness of bowel and liver cancer.  He will be sadly missed by all those who read his articles.

Alf :)

Rik

Indeed he will, Alf. :rip:

Tacitus

Very sorry to hear of his passing.  He was one of the few computer journalists who consistently managed to be worth reading.

Rik

He did, and over a long period too.

RIP Guy Kewney. One of the 1st computer journalists I recall reading, probably back in the early 80's when (I think) he used to write for PCW :(

Rik

It was, he did, Inky. :(

Maybe i just notice more now.

Rik

When it's people we 'grew up with' it seems so much closer. The big names of my parents era had little effect on me, but now we are seeing the deaths of people who had an effect on our formative years.

Oh yes forgot about him,

cavillas

Thought he'd died anyway. ;D  It's worse when you're close friends, cousins brothers and sisters start to die. :'(

Alf :)

Rik

It is, Alf. I lost my sister two years ago, which means I am now the age she was when she died. As my parents only managed 69, I don't hold out much hope for 2020. ;D

Not to worry Rik, we're all going in 2012 anyway.

I hope you're wrong about 2012 Alf as that's when I'm due to retire and I intend to enjoy it for as long as possible !!!

Sorry to hear about Guy Kewney although I don't recall his name but no doubt I've read some of his articles in the past.

The number of people one hears about dying of cancer these days is quite worrying, either it's reported more often or there's a significant increase. I wonder if there's some pollutant or food factor which may be the cause or is it just a modern lifestyle issue.

Rik

There is a significant increase, John, partly life style, partly we're being kept alive longer by modern medicine, so we have longer to develop cancer.
