If I did, I fancy a 15in with the additional graphics card but its over twice the the price of a good Windows laptop.

Actually they've got more restrictive over recent years.  The discount used to be consistent over all items, but now the maximum is on the main items - MacBooks, MacPro (still hideously expensive) and iMac.  Most other things, apart from Aperture, iLife/iWork etc, get a reduced discount - still worth having but not as good as in the past.

They also prefer you to order online as they can police the IP and email addresses.

Rik

They're no fun anymore. A bit like Adobe, I've lost my discount there altogether. :(

Ok you lot. Stop the fighting.

You are all getting me a mac book pro.

There you go, all sorted now, no more arguements please

:tease:

;D

zappaDPJ

I'm think of buying one of these myself although for sheer looks the MacBook Air really does appeal. Come on, you are not just going to buy an Apple purely for the ease of use  ;)

I need to do a lot of research.

It could, I'll probably need to fill it with Mac specific applications and I've just checked out the prices  :eek4:

zappaDPJ

It's always been the only issue that's stopped me running a PC and Apple product side by side. For me the cost of the hardware is insignificant compared to the cost of the software I'd want to run on both platforms.

Rik

Same here. I have a huge investment in fonts from my working days. Replacing them with the Mac versions would be prohibitive, even with the 40% discount Adobe offer in that situation.

If I have a bad day,it's late night shopping in Cambridge tonight. They have stock and I should get 8% off for a variety of excuses.

Steve

I had a look (well 11/2hrs) yesterday evening at the 15in and the 17in models, I found it difficult to ignore the 17in, the screen size does add a lot of extra functionality. The i7 15in really is very quick however they both very expensive they are also relatively heavy when compared to my unibody aluminium macbook 13in. I think the wife's old laptop is not going to be retired yet which after all is mainly used for web browsing and the like. The iPad may be a more sensible option after all.

What I found very refreshing about the Apple store in Cambridge was they didn't push to sell me anything. I went in with every intention of buying a 15in i5 2.53 Macbook Pro at the end I had to leave because I couldn't justify the purchase.

As one of the staff in the Birmingham store said, they don't need to push as the products sell themselves.

Steve

I believe figures suggest the people will actually visit up to five times before deciding on a purchase.

By which time they will have decided they really need two machines. :)

Steve

Probably ;D Anyway the MBP is a marvellous piece of equipment but for me the larger versions lose some of the practicality of the smaller 13in (I think???? ;D). The new 13in MacBook people complain that its not much of upgrade on the previous as it retains the C2D processor but the graphics component is said to be 11/2 times faster than its predecessor.

Had to go into an Apple store for a but of training for work.

I seriously think they intake too much Red Bull in there.

Steve

Well I agree its different from a visit to PC World and they can get a bit err how shall I put it ? retentive at times.

Technical Ben

I loved my 19inch laptop. The screen size was great, and videos were good. On newer screens they must be even crisper and defined. It was a "PC" though. So got it all for £1200. That is quite a bit less than the Mac Pro. But If I had the money I would consider it. It's just a non starter for me though, as while I can make do with free software, demos and some older versions I have avaliable for the PC, I could not afford the software for the mac. :I
I use to have a signature, then it all changed to chip and pin.

pctech

I think Apple charge well over the odds for hardware as in essence it is a PC with a different OS.

Rik

They do, but you have to admit that they do make awfully nice boxes. :)

That they do but my PC looks really quite nice,
