Ok-I'm back! Where were we?

Just now, I am using my computer and the connection seems fine. My other half is using his computer in the same room but doesn't seem to be able to connect.

Previously, I have tried the 3rd computer, a laptop,  plugged directly into the router and it seemed to be ok although difficult to tell as the connection fluctuates. Do I really have to buy and extra long ethanet cable or dismantle everything to plug directly into the router or can I take a slight gamble on what the problem might be? For example, is it likely to be a new router that is needed or a  need new router or  a new usb wireless connection do-dah?

What about the upgrade thing that I was offered?

P.S Actually, I keep losing connection again too now.

I think we decided there are two problems one was possibly due to an intermittent or poor wireless connection. Did you manage to change the wireless channel 1,6,or 11 being the ones to try. This is try to avoid any interference from neighbouring wireless network. I also believe that you have less trouble with wireless devices if they always get the same IP address when connected to the router ,you can setup DHCP reservations from the Netgear web interface.

The other issue is a speed test you posted which showed a relatively low throughput for your IP profile,it would be nice to know when things seem to be playing up what is happening to your broadband connection. The only way to eliminate the possible wireless issue is to test the connection via an ethernet cable.

The other thing which might give us some clues, Kitty, is if you run Routerstats (preferably for a 24 hour period):
