What is your contention ratio please

Lance

#1
If you are on max, there is no set contention, its each for his own. If you are on a fixed rate home package the contention will be 50:1 and if you are on a fixed rate office package it will be 20:1.

Thanks for reply   looks like most are 50-1  for what i want

Lance

You will find that all fixed rate home packages, regardless of ISP, are 50:1 because this is a limit set by BT.

Any more questions feel free to ask :)

I was looking at home lite  and it says contention and underneath n/a so just wondered if that was correct

i do not want to change server and find i cannot do things

Rik

Max services have no contention ratio defined by BT, hence the n/a. Max is a 'best effort' service in all respects. Once you reach the IDNet network, there is no contention, they ensure that their network can meet the demands of its users, and apart from a recent problem when an influx of migrants threw off their planning, I have found this to be the case. (I didn't ever notice a problem when there was a capacity issue.)

As you may have seen, you've picked a good time to think about IDNet as the Home Lite package has just moved from 2GB bandwidth per month to 5GB, with no increase in price.

I should emphasise, though, that we are just IDNet customers in here, not the company itself. As customers, we tend to be a happy, and biased, lot. :)

That is because home lite is a MAX adsl package which has no set contention ratio. Basically, you share the available bandwidth with as many people there are connected to your exchange, however, BT do have guidelines so that there shouldn't be any issues with speed.

At peak time BT state that your connection could drop to the same speed as a 2mb package, although in practice it doesn't normally go this slow, if any slower at all.

One thing to remember is that MAX adsl in rate adaptive and will find the fastest speed for your line, up to 8mb. How fast your line goes depends on several factors such as distance from the exchange and how "noisy" your line is.

I've just finished my second cup for today! Then I have water beween now and lunch, pineapple juice with lunch (one of my 5-a-day!), then more water to around 3:15 and then go and get another coffee to perk me up again for the afternoon stint before I finish at 4:30pm and go to the gym. Once at home I drink either diet coke or fruit squash.

It's not here - woke up to snow this morning. That's three times this winter (only, technically, we're now in spring, the equinox having passed...).
