Recently released  Voyage MPD

Small footprint 128Mb install , it would be ideal as Music Server on one of the fanless atom boxes.

The alsa driver with MPD looks like it should produce bit perfect sound via USB, plus you can have remote access via gmpc or MPod.

Downside USB DAC or USB-SPDIF bridge required and they're not too cheap.

Forgive my ignorance, Steve, but what can you use it for other than a music server?

This particular distro is designed as a Music Server or more particular a music transport via MPD (music player daemon ) . Voyage Linux has also been developed for other specific purposes such as firewalls and routers.

I think you'd need a fanless box and a small SSD drive to run the OS ( then it will be dead quiet), something like Fit PC produce. Music would be stored on an attached USB drive or a NAS.

It was so easy when you just put a CD in the drawer. ;D

indeed Rik

Nothing like buying your music on a round plastic disk.

Alas most of the labels I buy from don't distribute in this way anymore.

Rik

It was even more fun with 12" 78s, Mitch. Lousy sound quality, but great fun to try and read the label as it revolved at that speed.

And not become dizzy?

Rik

Very important as you had to change the needle after each side. ;)
