I am just experimenting with Windows 7, having used XP for many years. Lots of programs have installed fine but when trying to install my trusty version of Nero 6 (low bloatware factor) a W7 box appears indicating a compatibility issue with the software.

I don't want to buy anything new until I'm ready to take the full plunge to W7. I recall that there was a discussion on IDNetters some time ago about this topic but I haven't been able to search for it successfully.

Anyone care to give a few options? Need to try it out with DVD as well as CD.

Many thanks,

JB.

What is the date of the referendum for England to become an independent country ?

Seen a similar error on my father in laws computer.  He had a version of Nero that he used on XP.  When he got his Vista laptop it had no burning software on it.  So I installed the Nero version he had and it threw up a compatibility error.  I used it anyway and it seemed to be fine.  No need to run in compatibility mode either.

Give it a try to see if it works.

There is some CD/DVD burning functionality built into W7 using Explorer you can burn files and ISO images to CD/DVD, if you need to go further than this I use Ashampoo Burning Studio it's less bloated than Nero and does pretty well all you're likely to need to do.

Crumbs. That's a lot of replies very quickly and thank you all for the ideas. What a powerful forum IDNetters is  :thumb:

Alan, those two you recommend are the ones I remember from before, I'm sure. I'll give them a go.

Thanks all.

JB.

Have you tried right clicking the program and running in "compatibility mode" or troubleshooting compatibility. Windows 7 uses dynamic files structures to put program settings in you user profile. Older programs do not like this, and want to put it in the programs own files. Using a compatibility mode of XP for example can solve some of these problems.
I use to have a signature, then it all changed to chip and pin.

I guess I could try the install program in XP SP3 compatability mode. Subsequently, I tried Imgburn as suggested by Alan and it works great. Small footprint and no trouble.
