Your profile will catch up with the sync speed soon, Baz.

I wonder if the Netgear is getting a bit hot today? I know they don't like the heat.

Good thinking, Steve - entirely possible. Baz will have to buy a Dyson fan.

WTF!!!!!!!!  first thing this morning get this from the router stats

ADSL Link              Downstream     Upstream
Connection Speed    11510 kbps    888 kbps
Line Attenuation    39.0 db            18.6 db
Noise Margin            7.3 db            11.4 db

with an uptime of 13 hours somethings caught up was going to reboot this morning anyway but left it when I saw those stats.Router is warm but no more than normal.

But this from a BT test

Download speed achieved during the test was - 76 Kbps
For your connection, the acceptable range of speeds is 50-500 Kbps.
Additional Information:
Your DSL Connection Rate :11510 Kbps(DOWN-STREAM), 888 Kbps(UP-STREAM)
IP Profile for your line is - 350 Kbps
The throughput of Best Efforts (BE) classes achieved during the test is - 10.53:21.05:68.42 (SBE:NBE:PBE)
These figures represent the ratio while sententiously passing Sub BE, Normal BE and Priority BE marked traffic.

The results of this test will vary depending on the way your ISP has decided to use these traffic classes.

:dunno: :dunno:

Oh dear, that means the profile has been dropped due to frequent disconnects, there must be a lot of noise or a fault on the line to have caused that.

Router stats software may well show some useful information if you run it, either way I would get on to support for help with your line.

Baz

may take a look at that thanks but any downloads are painfully slow now  >:(

Lance

That profile should update quickly as it is such a big jump, Baz.

well seem to be having more bother with this ADSL2+ than anything ive had before.Had two more drops over the weekend, only for a very short time but back up with a lower sync and profile. It did recover well after the last one and was advised by support to just keep an eye on it but its annoying that its happening more now than before I was on this.

Whats the options of switching back?

Steve

The option for switching back is not available but you can get your connection re modulated to adslmax so it will act as it did previously plus you'll still keep your existing download allowances

it doesnt seem very stable this ADSL2..ive had another drop early this morn and re sync at even slower than yesterdays drop  :(

Rik

It's more sensitive than Max, Baz. If your line is noisy, it will be more unstable, DLM is on a hair trigger. That said, for most people, the results have been worthwhile.

Baz

its been good so far Rik to be honest, once it settled down, good speed improvement for me but I seem to be getting more drops than ive ever had.Doesnt seem worth the hassle  :dunno:

Rik

On Max, I averaged a resync every 40 days, Ba. With WBC, it's every 8 days. For me, though, it's not hitting the profile, so I don't mind for the extra speed I get.

so when you get a re sync what does or can it affect Rik.both of the last times ive had them the sync has dropped which changed the profile and I dont think it had time to recover before it dropped again.

why does it resync,is it because of problems or is it intended to drop  :dunno:

is there any way of checking of work at my exchange in case its that.

Baz

got this from BT

Download speed achieved during the test was - 7284 Kbps
For your connection, the acceptable range of speeds is 600-7150 Kbps.
Additional Information:
Your DSL Connection Rate :8355 Kbps(DOWN-STREAM), 1120 Kbps(UP-STREAM)
IP Profile for your line is - 7150 Kbps

nice upload speed  :)  never had it at that before

Rik

Hi Baz

Causes for resyncs include bursts of noise, a high error count or DLM cutting in to make an adjustment to the line. The latter happens far more frequently with WBC and can often, in my experience, result in a higher sync.

It's very unlikely to be work at your exchange.

Currently, I'd be very happy with your stats. :)

Baz

yeah I am Rik its just the frequent drops that annoy me.Maybe I was expecting too much from switching. It seems odd that technology gets better and you try to keep up with it but end up with what seems to be,sometimes, a worse service or product.

one step forward etc....

Rik

Do the drops greatly inconvenience you, Baz, and if that is the case does that inconvenience outweigh any advantages from ADSL2+?

Baz

good point Rik.inconvenience? for me no for the rest of the family a bit maybe. The only grief I get is, when it drops usually at a time when one of them is doing something online, the earache from them to  getting it running again  ;D

even though ive told them that these things happen and its not the ISP's fault, having to listen to 'you should change provider,or 'its always going wrong' etc. it was me who made the decision, each time I have, to change  ISP and me who decided when to upgrade to ADSL2 so its me who takes the flack :)

Families eh?   every ones an expert on the subject too

I love them really  :)

Rik

Get them to join, Baz, we'll straighten them out for you. :)

have dropped support an email and see what they come back with.

pctech

Ah but geeks make the modern world go round, without us everything would fall apart.

Rik

I thought that was elastic.
