safe to go back to faceplate?

After all teh problems recently would it be safe to unplug the test socket and replace the faceplate? I have one of these filtered nte5 faceplates, so dont need a separate filter, unless i'm in test socket of course?

obviously it'll mean re-syncing the router

I think most would recommend powering off your router first, but if you've had a load of trouble with connectivity anyway of late, then what's there to lose from trying this out eh?

I've had terrible trouble lately even with an ADSLnation filtered plate and twisted pair run of cabling, and yet this last weekend my internet connection had resynced so much it dropped my profile to the floor giving me super low speed internet.

I've seen that a decent faceplate helped so many peoples connections, and it only takes a few mins to fit anyway.


personally i'd go for it, but make sure you keep your old faceplate in case bt insist on it being re-installed if you move house at all.

As Gyruss says, power down the router, then refit the faceplate and see what happens.

a bit of further advice..

if you are going to be wiring in an extension for another phone using the terminals on the rear of the new plate, then please .. please made sure you use proper IDC insertion tool and not a thin screwdriver.  the terminals can be pushed apart too much by screwdrivers (thus ruined).

If your not wiring in an extension then as i mentioned in my last post, it will be a 2 min job to unscrew the old plate, unplug it and plug in the new one then re-screw.

not wiring anything in we only have a base station attached to the master socket (and the router to the adsl socket) so will just be screwing this back in.

hmmm, odd attached the face plate, and the phone etc went completely dead. no ring tone, works fine through the filter.

could be teh source of the noise I get. from time to time (re-synced fine at 8mb) maybe time for a new NTE5. they seem fairly easy to fit

The face plates are, but legally you can't fit the back box.

noticed last night, I have the older BT logo on the NTE5 (circled T with dots). and the thinner spacing plate is slightly bent outwards, I'm guessing this would force the connection slightly out of the test socket, is there a face place that would allow me to remove the entire front (taking the BT bit off). but not requiring any recabling.

Not sure what you mean by spacing plate? Is that the bit where the BT terminals are connected?

on your photo there steveI meant where the larger screws are. this seems slightly bent outwards. and I think it's stopping the adsl faceplate marrying with the test socket properly.
I have ordered another faceplate just to test with it though to make sure it's not a dead plate

All faceplates will be designed to work with the standard BT back box.

I tested (using the term very loosely) the adsl faceplate, but plugging hte microfilter into the test socket, then the faceplate into filter, and phone into faceplate... still no tone on the phone, yet the phone is fine into filter in test socket. So I'm guessing faulty faceplate. But not sure if this method would work

It would, because the phone side is filtered, so it should have passed through, though your ADSL would not. Definitely time to replace the plate, I think.
