Sad to say BT are at it again... been rebanded back down to 288kbps again.

Just off the phone with Brian at support. Nothing has changed my end re wiring or kit since before the Milton Keynes drop out last week.

He seems to think that BT - in un-banding my line - may have pushed it beyond it's limit, caused it to have more errors and the result - bang - straight back to the lowest band.

Been told to replace any filters - in case they've gone - and leave it until tomorrow as the now lower error rate may see the banding automatically recover to a higher level.

If not to call him again and see what he can do with BT to stop the extremes of super fast / lots of errors or very slow / ultra stable.

All I want is my 6meg and stable back that i was getting a couple of weeks ago. Please BT Milton Keynes wasn't my fault.

pctech

Trouble is its their wacky DLM software thats in the driving seat.

Wingnutz

Tell me about it !!

Is it possible to request a new 'training period' ?

Would that not give there systems more opportunity to assess at what level my line is stable?

Just a thought.

pctech

I think IDnet can request a profile reset.

Steve

The training period only exists on a new connection during which time you cannot report a fault on your line, so in other words no use to the end user whatsoever.

Cheers - if still slow in the morning I'll raise with this with Brian in support and see if he thinks it is a worthwhile option.

Rik

It isn't. DLM constantly monitors and adjust your line regardless of the training period, which is only used to set MSR and FTR, and these can be altered later. Primarily, it's there to stop BT having to deal with complaints for the first 10 days.

What was your speed like under Max?

Rik

Not really, Mitch, they can request it, it's just not as useful as people think. I'd only really go for it if the FTR was set very low.

4 / 4.5 meg.

Had no problems - apart from a dying 2Wire and a fauly filter causing drops out if the phone rang- since moving over. Even so speed increased to 6meg so was happy enough.

Its only been since last week that BT have move me all the way back to 288 banding.

Rik

Then go down the unbanding route. I was wondering whether a switch back to ADSL1 modulation might be OK, but clearly you'd take a big speed hit.

Trouble is the unbanding gives me 9300+ connection at 6db noise margin, introduces higher errors and then kicks me back to the 288 band.

It's how to break the cycle with BT's automatic systems that's frustrating me since last week.

Can I pick 6500 with 9db margin - pretty please...???

cavillas

I might win the lottery tomorrow  , if I do can I invest in Idnet? ;D  I would love the chance to help them and perhaps make my local exchange a fibre one much sooner and I can be the frist one to get it. >:D

I don't see why not, let me check for you.

I would invest in fibre too Alf and would rent the capaicity to all ISPs.

Like BT but with less BS.

Seriously ?

If you can pull the right strings and speak to the right people I'd be grateful.

pctech

Rik can do a lot but I doubt his powers of persuasion extend to BT.

Oh! I don't know. Give him enough food and he becomes SuperRik righter of wrongs and helper of the helpless.  Just run if he hasn't eaten for a few minutes thogh.  :out:

I guess the MSAN is still seeing too many errors as it drops the banding and increases the margin something similar may work on adsl though.

288 banded with 31db margin or 9300 unbanded with a 6db margin.

I'm either or at the moment - would like something in between.

Steve

It would be nice if BT had put in another dodgy card but that may take awhile for them to discover that.

Hi Wingnutz

I've just been exploring the possibilities for you with IDNet. They can no longer set a target margin, as was done in the past, but if you give them a ring, they can talk through stability options with you. BT ran a trial earlier this year which gave ISPs control to override DLM. I was lucky enough to take part, and my line got stabilised at 6db NM, with interleaving off and an extra 500k of speed, something that's never been achieved before. BT now plan to roll this system out, but probably not before the end of the year.

Thanks Rik,

due to speak to Brian in the morning if no change in banding over night. Will mention your name.

According to DMT tools current stats are

288 downstream
39 attenuation
30.8 noise margin
adsl2+ fast path

no errors recorded in last hour.

Dear Roy castle, is this a record?
If you truly believe you need to pick a mobile phone that 'says something' about your personality, don't bother. You don't have a personality. A mental illness, maybe - but not a personality
