Tis a shame I've got three Apple machines now 2 laps and a 24 iMac and not a single hardware issue I think you've been unfortunate but it's worry if cs can't sort the problem out to your satisfaction
I think the quality this year dipped Steve, but I have to say CS is always important and I do feel they just don't care, I love my Mac but when you see what you can get for that cash elsewhere it makes you wonder why you put up with the grief from Apple for 4 months, at that price no one should be treated with suffer of refund as an answer. in fact not at any price  :(

You've got to go with what you'll be happy with.  Your experience of the Mac is tinged, so your decisioc is understandable, Gary.
Thats the worse thing Simon, the grass is not always greener on the other side  :-\

No, and 'decision' isn't always spelt like I did either!  ;D

Off topic with reference to Gary and the Mac I think after my experience with Mac OS X I would find it very difficult personally to go back to Windows and I known 7 is better than rest. If I fell out with the Mac I'd be very tempted and I think almost certain to go to Linux. All my music is on a Fedora based headless server and the dam thing is so configurable and reliable, you need to learn some CLI commands but I find that bizarrely fun in this day and age of GUIs

Does that imply you've overdone the head-banging, Steve. ;)

Its not a matter of falling out with OSX, but Apple, support has been bad over the issues with the new iMacs, I love the I don't have to worry about tuning OSX like defragging, but I also miss that, I oddly miss perfect disc, Ccleaner having a decent messenger program that all my friends use, even though Windows  does not flow like OSX if i go back my productivity will probably be the same, my computer future proofing will be greater, I'll have USB3 for a start and a Blu-ray burner, but I'll also have a mirriad of hidden settings, no iLife ill have to install stuff for my iPhone and the AV of my choice may or may not bog down my machine or make it act quirky, If I change its back to windows as that's what I used to use, and no one is telling me what I can or cannot install on it or making war with adobe and not asking me if I want Flash, I guess between CS and the church of Jobs they have spoilt what is a truly glorious machine. I am long over being a person who uses a pc as a hobby, but at least I can upgrade my graphics card, PSU, have hot swappable harddrives all for the same price as my iMac, and after being told to go get stuffed really it feels very tempting, and thats not what I expected, Apple are evil, they make MS look mellow these days  :(

Having spent ages searching I have given up on the scanner, so reckon I will either have to do without or buy a new one (not Canon). I had trouble with SeaMonkey but have, at last resolved that. This now leaves me with just my Polar S-series Toolkit to resolve, I am unable to load it and can, so far, find no help on the internet or Polar's web site. Ah well ,it is raining anyway!
Nothing is perfect, not even my ignorance!

Den

I thought the Canon 8000f was great until I was forced into changing because of lack of Windows 7 drivers. I bought the Canon 8800f and am so glad I did it's by far the best scanner I have ever tried and so much quicker than the 8000f.   ;D
Mr Music Man.

It's odd Den as having checked the Windows 7 hardware compatibility the 8000F is said to be compatible, however the D2400U is not listed as either compatible or incompatible for 7 but is listed as compatible with Vista.

Broadback, the only driver I found was this one it's said to work with Vista here but also mentioned elsewhere was a scanner reset whether thats a power cycle or a switch I don't know before it was detected by the software.
